November December 2025 Snake Oil/Christmas gifts in the attic

 Christmas gifts in the attic

The magical window of my childhood belief in a Santa Claus was only a brief one. Even at the young age of five, I remember wondering how it was possible for all of the department stores and malls to have Santa Claus at their specific location at the very same time. I couldn’t imagine how one man, even if he had an army of supposed helper elves, could possibly deliver presents to children all over the world in one night. I also noticed how my wealthier friends often got more expensive gifts than our family did. Why did the poor kids end up with nothing at all? Was Santa only catering to the wealthy? Santa was supposed to come down your chimney and leave you your Christmas gifts. We had no fireplace in our house at all, yet we still got presents. And even if we did have a a chimney, how could such a fat man fit down one in the first place? These and similar thoughts started extremely early for me, and I wondered why other kids bought all of this malarky.

The observation that nailed the door closed on idealistic fantasies about Santa Claus and solidified my realist-cynic approach to Christmas was because my parents were not very good at hiding our presents. I would often see many of our gifts unwrapped at the bottom of Mom’s closet, or in the attic. I also saw Easter candy long before the “bunny” arrived, so that illusion was blown early as well. When I was six years old I remember being awoken on Christmas eve by the sound of the attic stairs opening. My father built the pull down stairs to our attic facing the bedroom my brother and I shared. He had to open the door to our room to get up into the attic. I clearly heard my mother’s and father’s clumsy attempts at putting out our presents most years. They were often punctuated by their usual irritation with each other. “Frank don’t forget the ones for Kathy.” “Hurry it up, I want to get to bed already.” “ What are you trying to do, break my arms.” “Wait for me to put these down first!” I would have had to have been a complete imbecile to still buy the magic Santa Claus story after all of these theatrics.

While I was solidifying my recognition of the un-truths of Christmas, many of my dopey friends still believed in Santa Claus. Apparently they were not “blessed” with the mind of a detective and happily enjoyed their delusions. I found myself feeling it was my duty to burst their bubbles early on. When I told them the truth they would often disagree at first and be mad at me. Eventually they would realize I was right. Still, I often reminded them that it would be wise to play along with the charade. The benefits of pretending to believe in all of the Christmas crapola were numerous. A good, sweet, oblivious child performance could bring tremendous rewards. I had no issue with pretending to be a dumb, naive little kid for adults and I made sure my friends were smart enough to do the very same thing.

While my parents didn’t do an ideal job of giving us the illusions of Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny when it came to the holidays, they did a great job in other ways. While a lot of the presents Mom (Santa) bought us were mediocre, lame stuff from church bazaar's and clearance sales and not what we really wanted, she put in some real effort. She had seven children and that was a lot of presents to buy. She always got us at least one or two things that were on our Christmas lists. Opening our presents on Christmas morning was always really fun. Even when I knew what half of the gifts already were because I saw them or snooped around, I always enjoyed the process of opening the presents just the same. The excitement of opening gifts was really fun and my parents made a point to make sure we had the experience.

We had some wonderful Christmas traditions we always followed. For many years we got a real tree (until I was about 17 when they finally opted for a fake one). We baked cookies and decorated the house, and some years we made gingerbread houses. We decorated our tree together weeks before actual Christmas and sometimes made Christmas ornaments and even strung popcorn. We hung lights outside, listened to Christmas albums, watched Christmas specials like Mr. Magoo’s Christmas, A Year Without a Santa Claus, and A Christmas Story. We did Christmas up in a big way every year. There are still boxes of Christmas pictures and hundreds of great memories and funny stories associated with all of them. December was a really cold time in New York, but we had warm traditions in our home.

While I missed out on believing in Santa Claus and many of the other holiday illusions, I got to experience elements of family and holidays that really mattered. The cohesiveness of a family and celebrated traditions were priceless. We learned about giving and receiving and developed a healthy sense of the importance of all of it. When I was a kid, and even into my teen years, I would often get up in the middle of the night and look at the presents under the tree (the Christmas eve gifts we bought for each other were often wrapped and left out under the tree weeks before). Some nights I would clear a space and lay underneath the tree for an hour or so. I would turn on the lights on the tree and feel the soft white sheet we placed underneath it. The smell of the tree, the twinkle of the lights and the excitement of things to come were only a part of why I loved doing this. Some wiser aspect of me knew I would only be a child for a short time and I wanted to fully allow myself to feel every moment of it. I was safe and loved in a family and I knew I was blessed. I sensed that I had lived other lives in different families, times, and places that were not as wonderful when it came to my experiences in this family. I also knew that there were people all over the world that did not get to experience many of the things I was so blessed to have. I had friends with more “troubled” families who would have been thrilled to have what I had. So I savored those moments underneath the colorful lights of our Christmas trees. I allowed myself to be happy and I completely immersed myself into childhood and the magic of Christmas. The great things connected with Christmas were never about believing or not believing in Santa Claus. They were all about honoring and enjoying one of the best parts of my childhood.

An extra new story from my upcoming book My Cast of Characters. Some of the stories are already posted over on my BuyMeaCoffee.com site!

Cast of Characters/42 Smashing Great Art

While it wasn’t as frequent as we have liked it to be, on occasion my mother would come up with an afternoon where the three youngest kids would do something together. She would get inspired by something she read in Woman’s Day, Good Housekeeping, or similar magazines and we would do something fun and creative. Generally it would be a project that could be made inexpensively with materials already in the house, or easily acquired. She once found a recipe for creating home made clay and suggested we could lay out newspaper all over our dining room table and make little animal sculptures or whatever we wanted out of it. Especially for me, already a budding artist, it was really exciting that she was encouraging us to flex our creative muscles.

I was about ten, my little sister was eight, and my brother Franklin was about twelve. Ruth and I were excited, but as usual Franklin did it begrudgingly and held tightly to his preteen angst and hatred of our family. Still, I could see that he was happy to be included in the project and to get any acknowledgement from our busy mother. It probably made him a little happy even if he was stubbornly set on not showing it.

We sat around all afternoon and sculpted little dogs, cats, squirrels, turtles, and other creatures. Franklin was really into reptiles so he exclusively made snakes, lizards, frogs and other similar creatures. It actually was really fun and just knowing mom put it together for us felt like love. We listened to seventies music on the radio and sculpted happily for hours. The next step was to put our sculptures in the window sill to dry faster. Ruth carefully put hers in her bedroom window. Franklin and I were sharing a bedroom that had two windows so we each used one windowsill and placed our amazing art to dry. The plan was that we could paint them if we wanted to the next day.

My brother and I hated sharing that room and each other though. We had endless arguments about space and his live reptile tanks were everywhere and it did not smell good in our small room. I haven’t any clue what I did or said to my miserable brother but a few hours later I noticed one of my animal sculptures was deliberately smashed on my windowsill. There was no doubt about who did this, so I retaliated and smashed one of his about an hour or so later. This inevitably went back and forth with him smashing one of mine and then me sneaking in and smashing one of his. This continued all day until all of our artistic afternoon’s work were completely destroyed.

When Ruth found out she was very fearful that one of us would smash hers. But not only was she not part of this feud, her stuff was crap, after all she was only eight. The whole thing was really idiotic. Neither of us knew how to handle our anger and both of our actions were childish, but we were kids. My brother and I inevitably learned to get along as we got older. Still, no surprise, he at times just gets angry with me and cuts off communication for a few months, sometimes even for a few years at a time. Thankfully he doesn’t live close enough to me to come over and smash things in my home, so my creative skills happily flourish.

Notes

The early fall was truly a season of tests and challenges. Fortunately there were far more times of notable bliss for me than actual challenges. I see it as a similar refection of the world at large for many, although many might see my perspective in reverse! I completed a refi on my condominium home with the help of a hard working, reliable loan officer (Contact me for his info if you are thinking of this or similar, truly excellent skills and he can work in many states) here in Phoenix. Most of the summer was a rough ride to get this refi (rarely easy for those who are self employed, banks are not fans of this) but it ended in success. I was able to keep quite a bit of my home’s equity while also able to pay off all of my other debts. Like so many people in the last few years, credit card debt was an issue for me but that has now turned around. This has put me in a far better space financially and energetically (Taurus rising; any limits on a sense of security are very uncomfortable!). Letting go of credit card debt with insane almost thirty percent interest rates was life changing. I am not only dealing with more ease but also beginning to slowly look into investing again. This current positive energy feels a bit like my life in the mid to late nineties, and a number of other times when the economy was strong and life was far easier for me financially. The main testing part of the late summer was relentless rain for two weekends here in Phoenix that caused roof leaks in two of my rooms. While inevitably covered by the HOA’s insurance policy and other built in safe guards, the level of hassle with this was extremely uncomfortable, and really tested my patience. Thankfully it is in the process of getting resolved.

An added benefit to my current more solid space in life, is I am also now able to start slowly building for my long time plan of either opening my own animal rescue in a few years, or to help fund one that already exists. This is in part to honor my mother who truly loved rescuing animals, and helped to feed that that selfless joy in me as well. A portion of every payment for sessions beginning in 2026 will start going to this fund.

As I begin my personal “4” year combined with the universal year of “1” in numerology I am going to make other stable changes. The year ahead involves putting more energy into fixing up my home and expanding my reach on social media to bring in new clients, subscribers, and those interested in classes. While I am for the most part not raising my session rates for 2026, I am going to be a bit more firm even strict about a few areas where I have been far too accommodating, at my expense. While I on occasion make human mistakes with screwing up session times, having to change session times, billing, etc... these are for the most part rarities for me. Unfortunately I have noticed some clients in the last few years that got excessive with things that are a hassle for me to deal with: far too many missed appointments, reschedules, clients taking to long to pay for sessions, not answering emails with calendar options for weeks and even months at a time when regular clients are due for their next scheduled sessions, and the extremely annoying endless requesting calendar availability and never actually booking. This is just a few things that have been become tiring and just too commonplace. Everyone at times may have to do some of these things (life can get hectic) but this is directed to people who do some of this stuff far too often!

I will require prepayments for clients who are too excessive with these types of actions. I will no longer offer Regular Client discount rates to clients who have signed up for the program unless the schedules are actually reasonably followed. The services and commitment to the program are valuable and need to be respected. Unless there is an understandable reason for a missed session, prepaid sessions will simply be lost. Non- regulars who still have sessions approximately once or twice a year will continue to get a $10 discount off current rates, and can also use birthday special invites. Added note: I have purged quite a few people from birthday special invites already though. If you have not booked a session for yourself (birthday session year overviews are particularly a really great time to get a session for many different reasons!) or thoughtfully purchased a gift session for a friend or family member during the notably discounted gift option period in the last five years, you have or will be taken off future invites. I am prioritizing healthy boundaries for myself in my life and my business. This is part of helping to teach others to value themselves and the work they do as well!

There will also be some added perks ahead. Current Regular Clients will not see any rate increases. Joining this program has so many benefits, so ask for info about doing so if interested. I am keeping the added $5 cash or check discount for in-office clients, and while email is still the best way to book, texting is now also an option. I know that some people prefer a few more options for booking. I have also added a full audio tarot interpretation series to my BuyMeaCoffee.com/Venturawora site. I have recently started adding audio files of the Michael teachings! I cannot overemphasize the benefits in learning a little or a lot about these teachings, it will change your life. About sixty five percent of everything on the site is free. The added purchase of “buying me a few coffee’s” ($5 each) every few months or even once or twice a year, gives access to so much more. The other option is to become a supporter. This is only $60 a year, and gives access to everything on the site. It also includes the ability to book personal sessions. You may book as many or just a few and still receive the quarterly regular rates. This is a good option for those who have difficulty keeping on a specific schedule! This other perk is the ability to buy (up to four a year) gift sessions for friends and family.

I took some time off from work on my Patreon site Patreon.com/MyCastofCharacters. I am creating new material again and posting both new material, and stories from my archives. Similar to my “coffee” site it has a similar structure of about sixty five percent free material, and with purchase or support gives you full access. This is where I post funny stories (written and audio) of childhood, crazy, and wonderful friends, family theatrics, and a host of other humor stories. I also (while still being built) have created my new website at JVentura44.com.

I am offering a December special (begins on Thanksgiving 2025) after any session booked for yourself you can purchase an added (up to three) gift sessions for yourself or friends and family to use anytime in 2026 at a $20 discount for each purchased session.
Wishing everyone a happy holiday season ahead. Cheers, Jim V

Q. If you have a destiny, where does reality creation fit in? To what extent does destiny predetermine your reality?

Lazaris: You do have a destiny, if you so choose. This is how it fits together: There is no sense of predetermination in the fullest extent of that word. Your life in not really mapped out for you. It’s not laid out so neatly. What is true is that between lifetimes you, as a consciousness, go through a whole lot of growth. You experience the death process, being dead, going to heaven and those sort of things.
Then you get tired of it and realize, ‘Is this all there is?’ Then all the backdrops fall away, and you get to work. You start reviewing the lifetime that you finished. You review it in retrospect and in relationship to the other lifetimes that are all concurrent. Then you decide whether you want to move through your growth without returning to physical form or if you want to pick another lifetime to experience.

In that process of picking another lifetime, what happens is that you create broad strokes. You decide you want to learn about this, and this, and this, and you want to experience that. You create what we call the broad strokes of your life, the broad, sweeping gestures in your energy. Then you enter into this life. Your consciousness, your massive consciousness, all of a sudden confines itself in this infant body, and you forget all of what went before. You don’t remember. Well, some children do remember for awhile, but they soon forget. The amnesia sets in, and they forget.
You have there broad strokes in your life. You decide, for example. ‘I’m going to come from  broken home. I’m going to have a broad sweeping illness here.’ Or, ‘I’m going to grow up and deal with love in such a way as to have several very hurtful relationships.’ You decide on those broad strokes. You also have things you want to accomplish in the lifetime. ‘I want to learn this and accomplish that, and I want to be of service in this way or that way, or whatever.’ But every moment you can change it.

For example, maybe you put a broad, sweeping stroke in your life that you were going to have a tragic accident and be crippled. As you approach that time, you change your mind. ‘I don’t want to do a tragic accident, I’m going to change this.’ You don’t have the tragic accident, and then your whole lifetime changes, absolutely it does.

You have free will, at any moment, either to accept the pre-decided, sweeping generalities in your life, or to change them. If you accept the broad, sweeping generalities, you still have to fill in the day-in and day-out existence where indeed you exert your free will, where you create that reality.

You see, you are the one who is creating the broad strokes, and therefore you can change them. When we talk with many of you, as well you know, we psychically tell you what’s going to be happening, what you’re creating, what you’re generating. Basically what we’re telling you is the blueprint that you’ve laid out for yourself. You have decided what you are going to create, and therefore you’ve laid out a blueprint, like an architect...

September October 2025 Snake Oil/Dr. Dolittle

 Snake Oil

Dr. Dolittle

For the last few years I have made a point to post a specific message for my local clients to be aware of the possibility of a few cats on or under my stairway. There are six apartment feral’s that some of the residents of my condominium complex feed on a regular basis. I have fed them consistently for about four years now. My stairs are definitely one of their favorite hangout spots. Even from personal experience, I know it can be unnerving to walk up the stairs and see a cat or two jump off the stairway running. It is sort of comical and probably gets a few of my new and more superstitious clients to feel even more nervous when a black cat is part of the introduction. The cats are all fixed and actually fairly friendly. A few of them even cautiously let some of the residents pet them. Almost all of them let me pet them, and a few of them want me to do it even when I am not handing out food. They, like all animals that were bred to be part of human families, just need affection and human touch. They swirl around my legs happily when I go outside at feeding time and show little or no fear of me at all. I have been called Doctor Dolittle by people a number of times in my life and take it as a compliment. Doctor Dolittle was a fictitious character from a movie with Rex Harrison in the sixties and also revamped in the late nineties and played by Eddie Murphy. He could talk to the animals. My mother and two of my six siblings have similar skills.

My ability to talk to animals, calm them, and earn their trust started at a very young age. Rather than fear most animals, my urge to communicate with them, pet them, and interact with them always far exceeded any fear of being bitten or hurt. Some of this was fueled by my mother. She was very good with animals, especially dogs. We adopted many pets from shelters and even took a few strays in along the way. My mother had a gentle touch with our dogs and cats. When my brother started collecting iguana’s, turtles, snakes, other reptiles, and an assortment of other odd pets, she had no fear of them either. Me and a few of my siblings followed suit. My other brothers and sisters weren’t as “into” animals or the family pets, as they had other things they were passionate about. At times they might have resented mom and believed she prioritized the pets over them.

I have surprised a number of people when I am in their homes for the first time when their dog or cat comes over to me without much hesitation. I have often heard things like this often: “She usually doesn’t trust men.” Wow he really likes you!” Many times they end up in my lap or sitting at my feet. Part of my ability to create this level of comfort in pets springs from knowing how to approach them by letting them come to me without any force. I will often take practical steps to calm them down if I feel they may be skittish. On the other hand an immediately friendly dog or cat will respond really well to prompts like “aren’t you a handsome boy,” or clapping your hands playfully. I am not uncomfortable if they jump on me or try to lick my face. My weird ability to sound like a cat makes all of them incredibly intrigued. Their ears perk up comically and they wonder where the sound is coming from. There are a lot of ways to make the situation flow and knowing what type of animal you are dealing with and responding to goes a long way.

The most important thing to recognize with animals is that while they may not understand words and their specific meanings they can read intention. They operate quite well at being able to pick up images and vibrational intentions. This isn’t as esoteric as it sounds. Human babies, small children, and animals read quite a bit this way. Telepathy is the basis of how we communicate and the bedrock of how language and communication operates. Often in sessions with clients I pick up on questions they are about to ask or begin to tell stories I have recently, or in the past, have gone through that resonates with what they are wanting to share. The reverse has also occurred when clients pick up on what I am trying to say without me even using clear words to express my thoughts. Their intuitive and telepathic abilities increase when they are around me. So much information is exchanged this way between both human to human interactions as well as with animals.

My Doctor Dolittle skills primarily come from a place of love and respect. I really love dogs and cats and pretty much animals in general. They are innocent creatures who benefit and assist us just as much as we benefit them. We are often healthier and happier when we have pets. A constant stream of unconditional love is not always achievable with other human beings, but animals do it effortlessly. The times in my life when I felt lost or fearful, especially during my childhood, were often healed by the presence of a dog or cat. My awareness of the influences of animals as totem have helped transform me and many of the people I have worked with. Just the process of watching animals can give us insight and clarity around our own challenges.

I have always seen other things in this world as alive and having a form of consciousness. Whether they be trees, plants, bodies of water, stones, and just about everything else, I always knew that they have a type of awareness and perceive us just as much as we perceive them. Their vibrations may be slower or different and they may not think and process with the use of a brain the same the way we do, but that makes them no less conscious and aware. Some religious and scientific viewpoints have contributed to us thinking of ourselves and humankind as “the top of the ladder.” This belief limits us from connecting to other parts of this world. Now if I expected animals and plants to talk back to me with actual words I could be easily be accused of being a bit nuts. I don’t. My ability to communicate with animals, and many other parts of nature has helped me to navigate more effectively in my life. I never saw myself “above” them, I’ve always perceived them as different but equal to me in value. Having more allies and friends in the animal realm supporting us on our life journey makes the journey itself a more enlightened trip.

Notes

I originally published this story ten years ago. Our six apartment cats are all still with us and now around fourteen years old. The summers are always hard for them, but they have adapted well. I never thought they would live this long, but I’m very happy that they have. While we got all of them fixed initially, none of them have ever been given the “required” vaccines and shots. This does bring up some interesting food for thought. I won’t get into a detailed discussion about my perspectives on the subject. Still, after more than thirty years of study and following a more holistic approach to health and wellness, I think the vaccine schedules while likely having some value, have also become excessive in both humans and animals. My perspective on this in no way takes away from the value of doctors and Veterinarians, and I believe there are so many areas where they do great work, but aspects of this also are questionable. The main reason I avoid discussing this topic too heavily is mainly because vaccination perspectives have become another subject arena for people to disagree and even become angry with those who don’t share their point of view. We already have so many areas where people argue and often stop speaking to each other, frequently blaming or hating and labeling those on the other side as the ‘bad ones.” I choose not to participate in the taking of sides and to avoid adding to the polarization and drama. I am also comfortable with people don’t like my perspectives about subjects I have spent decades studying and gaining knowledge about. tThey can choose to move away from interacting with me. I can easily handle some people convincing themselves I somehow fall into the “bad ones” category. It is nonsense of course, but other people’s beliefs about me have absolutely nothing to do with me. The benefits of age and wisdom have moved me more toward the approach in most matters that “If u don’t agree with me or like me, then you do your thing, I will do my thing.”

It is slow in coming as usual, but the hint of Autumn is on its way! We experience this seasonal weather shift in a bit of a slower pace here in Phoenix, but I am sure many of my readers in other parts of the country are already out of the heat of the summer. Unquestionably Fall has always been my favorite season. Even growing up on Long Island, I absolutely loved the season, although summers there were almost as close to amazing. The mostly crappy winters were part of what pushed me to move to Phoenix!

I have been talking about a number of astrological triggers on some of my social media outlets, and many of them are very notable both in the world at large as well as the impacts we experience individually. Fortunately this can be seen, and understood by looking at an astrological natal chart. If you choose to do the work to study all of it, or working with a really good Astrologer it can be incredibly beneficial to understand how these aspects impact us. Uranus has moved into Gemini, Jupiter into Cancer, Saturn and Neptune also recently moved into Aries. I frequently point out that our natal astrology doesn’t not make us do anything, but boy can it nudge us! Becoming aware of some of these pushes can help explain challenges you are dealing with, but also opportunities that may be current, or on the horizon that you can maximize by being aware of them. A look at your current astrology for the present and near future can be very, very valuable. And/or you may also want to choose to do a Tarot reading for the remainder of the year or buy a gift session for a friend with either option. Email is still the best way to book (VenturaSag@yahoo.com) although texting is also an option.

October and late fall and winter are typically the busiest months for home or office parties (with mini readings). Information about booking a party event or even a virtual one in this newsletter.

Happy pumpkin spice in everything, and finally feeling some nighttime chill in the air season. Cheers, Jim V

Channeled corner. I read many, many books from different trance channelers in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. Unfortunately many of them are now out of print, but I still have a huge collection and will share some of the best material I have collected over the years.

Can you explain how the emotion of fear originated?
“Fear, originally, was a signal that one should back off and not get involved until one had more developed skills for handling that given situation. Fear ensured that a young animal-or human-could survive without the mother or father constantly monitoring every decision that the child wished to make.

At its healthiest level, fear is a message that tells you to defer a given challenge or exercise until you are older, wiser, or more accomplished. That time may be only a few minutes hence, or may even be right now! It is worth listening quite carefully to what the  fear has to teach you. Once its ‘lesson’ has been learned, you come away with a new resolve-and, eventually, new skills you can employ to overcome the challenge that once you found so fearsome.
Chronic fear, then, is a form of internal nagging: You are being reminded, again and again, that a previous challenge of your development has not been faced squarely. You resist it not so much because of the original fear as out of a sense that-because the fear-message has been repeated throughout your life-you are perhaps incompetent to counteract the fear stimulus.

There is no one who is, or should be, fearless. But healthy individuals shed fears the same way they discard dead skin cells or hairs, or scrub off the mud adhering to their hands after a productive day.
Whenever you fear anything, you are in a sense identifying with your adversary-which you see as more powerful than you. You are a society (notice we did not say ‘race’ or ‘species’) that believes in playing imaginative games, much as when your Pentagon asks. ‘What will the Russians do next?’ The mother cat who defends her kittens feels little fear indeed, for she does not stop to identify with whatever is threatening them. To do so would scatter her energies-and she is singleminded upon the defense of her kittens.

So if you wish to be fearless, start by learning precisely who and what you are, and who and what you want to be. Security lies only in ability, but you cannot begin to develop those abilities that are uniquely your own until you allow the Divine Itch to show you where to begin scratching...”

Spotlight on one of the sessions I offer, Druid Animal totem cards.

Understanding the Sacred Animals of the Druid tradition is one of many powerful ways to connect with nature and our “animal power.”
When we let go of believing we are superior to nature, we open ourselves to the experience of living in the community of nature, being part of it, not separate from it. We are welcomed back into the circle we never really left, except in our delusion.

Animal teachers
Our ancestors revered every aspect of the natural world and considered each part of this world capable of being an ally, guide, and teacher...

“From Sacred Animals of Druid tradition.
When animals show up in our path they often have messages for us. One example:
Goose or Duck
In many different cultures and traditions Geese and Ducks were often believed to mate for life.
Goose upright (if your energy is flowing harmoniously with this part of ourselves)
Vigilance, Parenthood, Productive power.

This card may indicate that you are ready to take on the responsibilities of raising a family, or of committing yourself to a long-term partnership. Goose brings creative and productive power. It allows you to open to this power, secure in the knowledge that your relationship or family or working partnership will provide a stable environment to act as a crucible for your creativity. Raising children is one of the most joyful and worthwhile activities we can undertake, and the goose, with its strong attachment to its family, combined with its ability to fly extraordinarily high from one continent to another, shows us that it is possible to be both grounded and spiritual in our daily lives.

Goose Reversed (if you are struggling with a relationship or aspects connected to this area of life).

This card may indicate that you need to be aware of being overly concerned about your rights, possessions or territory. You may not need to strut and hiss quite so much, and you may not need to be so possessive of your partner. Many geese mate for life, but not all humans do, and in the end staying together may not be in your best interests. If the relationship is really to last it will thrive on mutual respect and freedom, rather than jealousy and possessiveness.

The ancient Celts kept geese for their eggs rather than their flesh. They knew it was better to keep the goose alive and productive, rather than destroying its productive capacity by eating it. They kept sheep in the same way - for their wool and milk rather than their meat. The lesson for us is that if we want to ensure our productive power, our capacity for creativity, we must look after ourselves. To make sure the goose keeps laying the golden eggs, we must keep the goose alive - well fed, well rested, well exercised.”

Animal totems are one of many different oracles I use when working with clients.
Navigational Consultant/Astrologer Jim Ventura. You can specifically request this as a part or specifically in a personal session.

“Love the animals, love the plants, love everything. If you love everything you will perceive the divine mystery in things. Once you perceive it, you will begin to comprehend it better every day. And you will come at last to love the whole world with an all-embracing love.” Fyodor Dostoevsky

“Those who wish to pet and baby wild animals ‘love’ them. But those who respect their natures and wish to let them live normal loves, love them more.” Edwin Way Teale

“The animal world shows us the potential we can unfold. But to learn from them, we must first learn to speak with them.” Ted Andrews

Home and Special Event Parties

My party rate is only $100 per hour. If you are interested in hiring me to do a party or event, let me know and I can check on availability options. There are a number of formats for setting up parties and here is some basic information. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions about booking parties.

I am available to do private parties (Phoenix and surrounding cities) with “mini readings” for your guests. Parties can be booked with either 10-15 minute or 30 minute session blocks for smaller group parties. Many of the different oracles I work with can be chosen for your specific event.

The parties are a fun way to enable family and friends to become more comfortable with the benefits of oracle readings. I have done many of these parties in the past and they are truly memorable events for all of the guests.

Minimum and maximum numbers of readings/hours are required to book a party at your home or office location. The minimum is a 3 hour booking. I offer the option of a 2 and a half hour minimum for locations within 15 miles of my home. Minimum of $250 fee for any booked party. A $50.00 non-refundable deposit is required to hold a party date. The 20-30 minute sessions can be great options to consider when there are small groups looking for a personal reading at your event. Shorter 5-10 minute sessions are also an option for really large events.

You can either book me for the $100 an hour rate for your party or event so your guests don’t have to cover any costs, or guests can cover their own costs for readings. Both options work very well, although I still prefer that the host collects all of the payments from guests for their readings with second option to help things move along more efficiently. If your guests are paying for their sessions they are still able to take advantage of the discount that comes with parties at bulk rates.

Parties can now be virtual!
If you live out-of-area or even if you simply prefer-mini reading parties they can be by phone or Face-time, Zoom etc...

July August 2025 Snake Oil/Dimming our light

 Snake Oil

Dimming our light and becoming a good turtle dad

I was focusing on purposeful nothingness and was flipping through some channels on television recently on a Mother’s day afternoon. My six siblings were texting back and forth in a group chat about different things like they typically do on most holidays. While for years I almost always joined in, I have gotten into the habit of putting far less time and energy into these conversations. I dutifully mentioned a brief Happy Mother’s Day message to the sisters who are Mom’s but maintained some detachment about joining in the lengthy conversations that day. Instead I actually got caught up in watching some episodes of the show Everybody Loves Raymond. I had already seen every episode years ago, but decided on another visit. Both my Mother and Father loved the show while they were alive. It was based on a Long Island family with a few similarities to our own. When the show originally ran, my parents really got excited when “Raymond was on.” After about the third episode my practical mind thought “What are you doing wasting most of an afternoon on this?” My spiritual and emotional parts felt something very different. After a few episodes the vibe of my living room shifted and I could feel my parents in the room with me. It felt like they had joined me in spirit, or even nudged me a bit to watch the show. I had the sensation that they were happily sitting with the son they loved, and part of that connection was watching a show we all really enjoyed. We did similar things like this when I was a child. We often watched television in the evenings as part of our family bonding time and had favorite shows. It was a magical feeling to feel them in the room with me after so many years and I felt blessed to experience a wonderful way to spend some time on Mother’s day. It was like a bridge was created and they briefly joined me in the physical world.

We will put a pin in this and come back to it in a bit.

Like so many old souls, I was a bit of a weird child. I experienced many similar events like this, saw ghosts, communicated wordlessly with animals, remembered some past lifetimes, and had all kinds of spiritual experiences that to me seemed normal. I didn’t have to work at it, all of this came naturally to me. I also fine tuned some skills when I was a child. I quickly developed a wicked sense of humor, partly as a defense mechanism for attacks I received from some of my siblings and the bullies of the neighborhood and in school. While challenging, this focus was definitely part of my road to being a writer and public speaker; I needed to develop a sharp mind and wit. While many people loved my sense of humor, some found it irritating. Another developed skill was that I could also be very charismatic. I learned early on how to get a bit more love and attention from my mother (no easy task). This spread into work and other areas of life where I used this like-ability and charisma to be more successful with working with others. Both of these skills became increasingly polished as I got older. The problem for me was many of my siblings either ignored both of these notable skills or often seemed to resent me for them. I was often told things like “Stop being such a wise ass.” “How come Jimmy gets everything and manipulates Mom?” And the most common one of all; “What is wrong with you?” Like any child in a family I needed acceptance, love, and support, and to be appreciated even a little bit, but that experience was truly a rarity. It unquestionably damaged my self esteem.

Throughout my lifetime every time one of my siblings got married, engaged, had a child, got a promotion, celebrated anniversaries, their kids graduated, my brother celebrated years of being sober, etc.. I joined in and sent gifts or simply verbally patted them on the back for a “job well done.” I did my best to be a good supportive brother and to show that I was proud of them, because I was. Over the years, the problem for me was my accomplishments were rarely, if ever acknowledged or celebrated. While two of my sisters have actually been very supportive, my four other siblings handled the thoughtful support and healthy acknowledgment from my two cool sisters by saying things like “God it’s sickening how much you love Jimmy.” “Stop making his head even bigger.” My two brothers were both especially horrible to me. My other two sisters on occasion were thoughtful but for the most part were minimally supportive, and frequently got annoyed (stopped talking to me) at me for various reasons, usually something I said or “shouldn’t have said.” I often wasn’t even sure what exactly triggered their disdain.

When I published my first two books, my two supportive sisters were proud of me but the other four; nothing. When I bravely did my own public access show in the late nineties while in my twenties (the show was quite popular), nothing. When I began writing a successful column, I got nothing. They never acknowledged it, showed an interest in reading any of it or ever even asked about it. When I started a successful podcast radio show, nothing. From 2017-2021 I appeared 63 times on a popular, nationally syndicated televisions show on ABC. No one ever asked how they could see an episode, or even about what it was like to do something that amazing. My lifetime focus on exercise and fitness, being in really good shape, and still aging quite well now in my early sixties has never been acknowledged. At first I attributed this to many of them not understanding the work I do, and my priorities. Still, something always nagged inside about how strange it was that they wouldn’t show interest or be notably proud of a successful writer, television, and radio personality even if they didn’t understand the subject matter. It was odd, hurtful and felt like old childhood patterns continued to play out even though we were long into adulthood.

Over the years I found ways to deal with the emotional disappointments. My Higher Self nudged me. When I would brew too long on the uncomfortable neglect along came kidney stones, and a round of diverticulitus to “wake me up.” Disease painfully highlighted my need to heal these wounds and forgive. By healing those physical things (almost exclusively holistically, not surprisingly another thing I got no recognition of) I changed perspectives on how I viewed a lot of it. I recognized that because they were different soul ages and had different focuses and interests, spirituality was not something they prioritized. I realized they were in no way “bad people.” Not only did I choose this family (at a soul level) for the opportunity to grow through these wounds, but they all had some notable good aspects that I did appreciate. In sharp contrast I have had friends and clients with really horrible, even abusive families. The biggest realization was that my wanting them to act a “Certain Way” was my side of the problem. It was an uncomfortable mirror of what they often did to me!

Their discomfort and even annoyance for expressing my humorous side was also something I had to gain a new perspective about over the years. Humor has always been a big part of who I am; the philosophical, and often wise-ass storyteller. Being funny has been a highlight for so many of my friends over the years. My close friends laugh hysterically when I say funny, sarcastic things playfully about myself, or them from time to time. Many of my close friends even share my comments, texts, and messages with their friends and family members, who wish “they were in the club.” But from my family I mostly got things like “You shouldn’t say things like that. You’re not funny.” And more often than not they just ignored any commentary no matter how funny or even brilliant when I shared on group texts. It often feels like I am navigating in a completely different world (a truly supportive one) with my friends, co-workers, and many clients who love my sense of humor versus a family who is definitely not fond of it.

I am guessing for many of my readers similar themes may have played out within their own families. After a while you just start dimming your light to not cause a backlash. Minimizing expressing so many parts of yourself becomes a survival mechanism. The problem with this strategy is that you are not being who you were meant to be! This can inevitably becomes very uncomfortable. Over the years, rather than just get mad, angry or choose to theatrically cut some of my siblings from my life like many people inevitably do with family, I just adjusted my involvement with them. I simply communicate far less often. Dimming my light repeatedly just feels wrong. Doing this inevitably began to feel more and more like an imbalance in giving and receiving and an expression of a lack of self love. So, over the years, I adjusted the way, and amount of energy used to interact with some of them. I inevitably found a more balanced, healthier way that keeps my sense of personal integrity intact. Presently and in the future I will still occasionally attend family reunions, and chat with some of them on the phone, or through text from time to time, but this is something I just do far, far less. I can sometimes discuss gas prices, and vacations, trips, concerts, etc...the things they mostly focus on. Fortunately the approximately two thirds of me, my humorous and spiritual side still gets expression, just not with them. I share these aspects of myself with friends, clients, gym buddies, social media followers, people who read my books and columns, and a few close friends that became my chosen siblings, even if we weren’t born into the same families. I have so many people I don’t have to dim my light for and for this I am truly grateful.

Now: Back to my explanation of the experience with feeling my mom and dad magically joining me on Mothers day in spirit. When this happened I got the “bright idea” to maybe share this with my siblings. Old patterns sometimes die hard. They were still chatting away on some text thread that I had ignored for a few hours. When I tuned back into the chat they were comforting my oldest brother Richard. He has always had an angry chip on his shoulder about feeling criticized by his siblings, a big one being he never having married or had children. None of us judge him for this in any way. It is his own self created prison that he failed somehow. His coping mechanism was often getting into a weird competitiveness about proving how amazing he is, or better than everyone to get attention. My siblings were sharing a detailed discussion about how Richard was a really “great turtle dad.” He brought up the silly point to somehow compete as usual amidst the compliments to all the good mothers in the family. They took turns reminding him that “being a good turtle dad” was important and in this way he should celebrate his own version of Mother and Fathers day.

Was this conversation for real? I began to laugh hysterically. I nearly lost it. It was just so funny. I realized I had spent decades of my life wasting energy worrying about getting approval for some of the notable things I had accomplished from people who were now discussing the benefits of being a good turtle dad? I definitely have nothing against the importance of being a good turtle dad and I love all animals, but the silliness of this conversation was priceless. My laughter was just what I needed to complete my healing. It was an added reminder for myself, and why I use the benefits of humor to help shift perspectives with my clients and friends. Sometimes things are just so ludicrous that the laughter itself is what wipes away so much of the pain. And maybe this insight was a message from my Mom and Dad to see the situation differently. Of course I didn’t share my profound spiritual experience and message with my siblings about our parents joining me for a bit that late afternoon. They were busy talking about nonsense, and there is nothing wrong with that! In a weird way the silliness of their discussion almost made them more endearing to me. Still, I will stay on my more discerning course and wisely prioritize sharing my more profound insights and at times brilliant, weird sense of humor with those who can appreciate it.

  Notes

Summer 2025 is here. My Phoenix life for over 30 years now has trained me well at how to handle the uncomfortable hot temps. I typically head to the gym in the mornings, along with running any errands, and then I am pretty much in my home (working on writing and marketing, and doing personal sessions, often by phone) until after sunset. Thankfully my car has some covering during the day, but I still feel bad for it. I try to minimize how much I use it during the peak of the heat. Back in my early years here in Phoenix the bonus was a lot of people left the valley during the peak summer months (Snow-birds) but now it is almost as busy as the winter months. I miss the old quieter, less crowded summers in Phoenix.

I have temporarily shut down my website (JimVentua.com) but will build a new one this fall. The cost kept skyrocketing and it really wasn’t getting used enough to make it worth the high costs. Fortunately I have my BuyMeaCoffee site. A listing of all the session options can be found on the site, and of course you can just email me to request a session. I will send both the availability calendar and a list of the many types of sessions I offer. The Coffee site has grown quite a bit. It now even includes an audio tarot series explaining the meaning of all the cards including the reversed meanings. I am getting major positive feedback on this. Forty years of study and my ability to explain things clearly are making this a popular destination for Tarot readers and those learning the craft. I purposely keep about 60 percent of the options on the site accessible at no cost. But for the purchase of a ‘few coffee’s” this opens up a lot of extra insight with Feng Shui tips. meditations, manifesting, healing techniques, stories from my books, old columns, etc... The even more advanced option is purchasing a yearly subscription. This adds even more insight (only $60 a year) and gives subscribers the option of having sessions with me in-office or by phone anytime for quarterly regular client rates! There are many added benefits including allowing you to purchase up to four gift sessions for friends and family at the notably discounted rates, I am also building a shop on the site. Right now there are a number of session offerings at a good sized discount for anyone to purchase for themselves or to give as a gift. I will soon be adding metaphysical products to the shop as well!

It seems I am also getting more booking than ever with hotel and party events for mini readings. You can actually book a home party if you are in my area or do a virtual party by phone, face-time, or even zoom! I am adding this info later in this newsletter. You can also email me for information about how you can do this and the price. It can be a wonderful addition to any party or event you are having.
If it has been awhile since your last session check-in remember subscribers to Snake Oil get an added $5-10 discount off my listed rates and you can also join my Regular Client Program for discounted regular check-ins. Email is still the best way to book, although text and calls are also an option.
Cheers, Jim V

Nature and Consciousness

“To attempt to protect the self in old terms or to keep the self rigidly ‘itself’ is like holding your breath for too long. Selves, like breaths, go through us all the time. But from our standpoint we are the larger psychological structures that translate these selves into ourselves; just as the body translates our breath into our living.
Even our bodies often seem not us or not ours because we have forgotten how to identify with them, lost the knack of following the strands of consciousness that should connect us, so that our full experience of creature-hood itself is further limited. We seem instead to be victims of the flesh, at the mercy of illnesses, wars, and natural disasters, because we have lost track of our natural selves and lost sight of our place within nature’s framework.

It seems idiotic, for example, to think that we can cure ourselves naturally of illnesses when we believe that disease is thrust upon us by the flesh, and has nothing as all to do with our desires or beliefs. Until we realize that our consciousness, working through the body, creates its state of being, then any natural cures will be considered miraculous. Seth, for example, states that so-called miraculous cures are simply examples of unimpeded nature.
In the same way we are part of nature; physically as real as mountains, air currents, trees, or oceans, all of which have their effects upon the climate and world conditions. Yet for some reason we imagine that we affect the natural world only through our technology. But our physical presence itself has an interaction with the earth and with the physical elements that compose it. We are biologically connected, and this means that the chemical makeup of our bodies is part of the earth’s contents.

Our chemical balance changes as our emotions do, and we alter the composition of the earth. We are not at the mercy of natural disasters. We have forgotten or ignored our native emotional identification with the wind and with storms, and therefore lost our part in their existence, and whatever conscious control we may have once had over them. Therefore we need technology-to bring rain to parched areas, for example-and consider it the sheerest nonsense to blame parched emotions instead...”

Regular Client Program

My Regular Clients enjoy working with the many different types of oracles I work with for enlightenment. But a good portion of them work with me in the form of an enlightened counselor and life coach. Discussing what you are going through or working on at each time is definitely healing but also allows added insight from my many years of navigational consultations and the wisdom of working with me, a very old soul!

One of the best programs I have been doing for 26 years now is my Regular Client Program. The program is designed to benefit my clients at multiple levels. Clients who enroll in the program come in every three months for personal sessions (monthly or every-other-month sessions are also an option). This can also be done for out-of-area clients by phone. Session prices are notably discounted for Regular Clients. The focus of the program is on consistent work in developing your intuitive abilities, learning how to navigate more effectively through life by using the signs and signals that are all around us, and conquering fear-based programming permanently. We also get to work with all of the many different oracles I currently work with! My Regular Client Program has resulted in some tremendous spiritual evolution for hundreds of people over the years. Some of my regulars have gone on to do spiritual counseling or similar types of work and some are healing and guiding others personally and professionally. The progress I have seen over the years among the majority of my Regular Clients has been phenomenal. It is wonderful to see the spiritual, physical, and emotional progress I have assisted in motivating. So many of my Regular Clients have dramatically changed the way they now view life and are enjoying a more enlightened point of view. You too can join this program as well, just ask.

More about the Regular Client Program... This program was designed to create an easy, cost-effective way for my clients to progress in their spiritual development. When we are consistent at attending to our body/mind/spirit, we naturally move through life with more harmony and greater joy. When our spiritual awareness is heightened and fine-tuned, we are often happier which helps us to enjoy all aspects of our lives, including occasional personal challenges because we see them as inevitably beneficial. We can truly assist the people around us. Human beings learn by example. Your intimate partnerships, friendships, family, and children benefit when you are in a good space. The Regular Client Program makes it easier to prioritize keeping your spiritual, emotional and even physical “garden” free of weeds. Email me for more information and pricing.
