September 2016 Snake Oil/The old man is down the road, or is he?

Snake Oil  The old man is down the road, or is he?
(This column was written and first published in 2010)

I recently read a passage from the book of Runes to a client and it took a minute for my eyes to adjust so that I could clearly see the words. This is an issue that is fairly new to me. I don’t wear glasses because I have never needed them. My eye sight has always been somewhere between average and exceptional. Now that I am in my mid forties I have suddenly become a little far sighted. We talked about the meaning of the Rune stone that was meant for her that day. It clearly related to what was presently happening in her life. This prompted me to tell her about a similar experience I had been through years ago when I was in my early thirties. My client was genuinely stunned to find out I was 45. She thought I was currently in my mid thirties. It was a beneficial session for her and for me.
While I gracefully received this compliment, I think, realistically that I can maybe pull off mid to late thirties at best. Still, I do hear this fairly often, people tell me that I look much younger than my present age. In fact I have always heard this. Even when I was twenty people often thought I was a few years younger. Of course I hated it then... At this point in my life, I have experienced very little of the negative effects of aging. I am in excellent shape because I work out three or four times a week and I eat a fairly healthy diet. Things are not sagging and falling apart like I was told would happen “inevitably after forty.” Internally and externally, things are working nicely. I have very few if any wrinkles on my face. This is probably because I rarely tanned when I was younger. My skin is more on the fair side, so the few times I tried to tan when I was in my teens and early twenties, it resulted in me just getting really red. After a few sunburns, I got wise enough to accept the reality of my skin and gave up tanning. This combined with good genetics (everyone in my family looks younger than we are) and taking care of my body inside and out has contributed to my aging well.
While I never have been fanatical about it, I actually love the experience of taking care of my body and skin. I use moisturizers daily and even use at home facial masks twice a month. I brush my teeth and floss often, trim hairs that spring up in all of the “wrong places,” and put a fair amount of energy into looking good. The care and maintenance of my physical body is something I do not see as a chore. I see it as a kind of fun privilege and a gift. Taking care of my body, and doing my best to look good makes sense to me. The need and value of keeping the vehicle that I drive around in - my body - in optimal  condition is to me, unquestionable.
Years ago I dated someone who was chatting with his friends about staying fit and healthy and looking younger. I shared their enthusiasm for part of the conversation. I began to lose interest, however, when it shifted to Botox, chemical facial peels, face lifts, and liposuction. I understand why people do these things and I definitely don’t judge their choices. Hell, I had my teeth professionally bleached a few years ago, and even briefly had a hair piece in my late twenties. I question the over-use of surgery and the wisdom of injecting poison into your face to eliminate wrinkles. There are a number of safer, natural ways to practice healthy vanity without needing to resort to these types of extremes. Often people use surgical and questionable injections in a compulsive way, and after a while many begin to look a little ridiculous. Endless stretched skin and rounds of liposuction, breast augmentation, lip injections  and other forms of plastic surgery can turn an attractive person into a little bit of a freak.
While there are definitely practical reasons for my experience with aging well, there are metaphysical influences operating here also. I started losing my hair and going bald at a young age. This was already happening by the time I was nineteen. It was bittersweet, because I hated my red hair. I never thought my hair looked attractive, but balding at such a young age was not something I was happy with either. It wasn’t just my hair though as I never thought I was really attractive.  At around the same time my hair began to thin, I also began to study metaphysics and learned that our beliefs form our reality. I decided to do something about my belief that I wasn’t handsome or attractive enough. If it were true, and I changed my beliefs, than I could change this reality. I decided to begin to believe that I would get better looking with age. The new belief I focused on was that I would stay young looking for many years and I would not even reach my most attractive point in life until my late forties to mid fifties. I was clear about manifesting this. Since it was a long range goal, I knew I would have time to remove the current negative beliefs that blocked me and make this an inevitable reality. I remember thinking that I would be like Dick Clark and stay abnormally young looking for a long time. I would defy what people perceived as “normal aging.”
Over the years I have run across a number of people who have similar beliefs in this area. Other “rebels” who refuse to commit to beliefs like: “Its all downhill after forty.” “I was at my best in my early twenties.” “Everybody gets fat when they are older, its impossible to stay fit after sixty.” “Forget about having a ripped abdomen after you turn thirty.” While I think these things are true for many people, I see evidence of the opposite of these limiting beliefs all of the time. I have friends and clients who are fit and healthy and look amazing in their fifties, sixties and seventies. I have observed a number of people who are active and healthy and in their eighties. True beauty is an internal quality that radiates outward to create outer beauty at any age.
So far, I still have not gotten glasses. I will do eye training exercises to improve my vision. I am sure I can resolve this. And if I do need glasses or lasik, then that won’t be the end of the world, by any means. My body making it difficult for me to see “the tiny details of life so clearly” is a message in its own right, and a valuable one for me to consider. Sometimes being “too detail oriented, and nitpicking” is my problem. I have no desire to live forever and avoid the process of aging. I expect that in my eighties and nineties, I will be a bit more tired, somewhat less active and sexually motivated. I will probably have a few more wrinkles. The process of aging, for me will still be minimal in comparison to what “is supposed to happen.” I think that in my mid nineties I will tire of this world and want to go back “home again.” My body will have served me well until I am ready to leave it behind for new adventures that don’t require a physical body. Until then, screw the typical aging story, I am going to play the “looking younger, attractive, and staying fit game” for a number of decades to come.

Notes:

I wrote this piece a little over 6 years ago. I can’t say there has been any real major changes in my health in the last few years, although I have some gray now in my beard and chest hair. I have always had some blonde, red, and brown hairs, now I also have some gray. I looked at it as added colors to the many I already have. I still workout 4 days a week (I have for most part since about the age of 17) and I still continue to fine tune my body this way. I can no longer wear large shirts and have to go with XL because my arms won’t fit into the sleeves of a lot of shirts. Plus I am no longer interested in really tight fitting clothes! I also wear my dollar store reading glasses when I read and have gotten pretty comfortable with using them. I have about 13 pairs around the house now! Other than that I now get AARP and Hartford insurance. Cringed when I signed up for it, then I found out about all the perks and about $350 a year less for same car insurance. Still going with mostly plusses for the aging process!
I have decided to extend my new client promotion until the end of November. Please feel free to pass the information along to friends. You may also purchase a gift session at these rates for a new client!
I have posted some information about Donald Trump’s astrology chart. It really does fit him and if anyone is still in doubt about how astrology influences us this should put that to rest. More information about the Trump chart later in the newsletter. I will post Hillary Clinton’s chart next month so everyone can see the comparison. Very, very interesting, no matter what your political affiliations.
I am also running an astrology special all month for everyone who receives my monthly Snake Oil column, so you can discover the countless benefits of understanding your natal chart, or partners, children, etc...
Wishing everyone a happy September. Fall is thankfully around the corner! Cheers, Jim V

Channeled corner. I read many, many books from different trance channelers in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. Unfortunately many of them are now out of print, but I still have a huge collection and will share some of the best material I have collected over the years.
“Again, the body always reflects the state of the psyche and the filter of a given age. Those in middle age may observe with concern and dismay their bodies of youth losing  their fine, sharp edges, as the bathroom scale seems determined to torment you at every opportunity, the flexibility of youth giving way to awakening new and unwelcome aches and pains.
Remember the filters of life. Youth is the age of exploration, the span of inquisitive and searching experience in every facet of life. Flowing from this, early adulthood is a time of choice, when much exploration may still be required to choose effectively.
By middle age, most choices are made. What need had the middle-aged adult for the strength and agility of youth? There is no reason, given the filter of consolidation, why that body need be maintained.
The psyche supplies a constant flow of energy into your life. In youth, that energy is almost all directed into the body, its construction, growth and explorations. In middle age, with exploration behind, that energy is better spent intellectually, in meeting with the demands of one’s career, marriage and parenthood. It is not that the body is in decline but that the focus of one’s energy shifts from pure physical activity to physical activity driven by intellect. The psyche is thus reconfigured to devote more energy to the mind, to focused concentration on the choices made, rather than frenetic activity.

Now, as you are seeing in your day, there is a rise in the number of men and women who can continue to perform athletically almost as well as they did in youth.  Once again, your beliefs built upon the medical model of a body decaying from birth are being laughed off the planet. There is no reason whatsoever why the body cannot remain fit, vigorous, vital and active for the entire duration of life: indeed, this is the plan. It is only when you saddle the body’s innate resilience with beliefs about aging, about death, that you find the literal results in the breakdown of so many elderly bodies. As one more slap in the face of science and medicine, then, as the New Dawn approaches you find middle-aged and elderly persons demonstrating athletic prowess to put to shame many in the stage of youth.
We say this to emphasize that, while the psyche does refocus its energy into the intellect, rather than youth’s exclusive concentration on activity, there is no suggestion that the body must decline in resilience or strength. It may require more work to maintain that tone, however...”

Donald Trump’s Natal Astrology Chart:

When an astrologer looks at a natal chart there are many, many aspects to consider to really get an understanding of what contributes to the natal chart that pinpoint our personalities, talents, strengths, weaknesses, motivations, passions, and what areas (houses) of life we are drawn to most. This is a very short report and analysis of Donald Trump’s natal chart, with a focus on highlighting some of the most notable aspects and characteristics.
Donald Trump 6-14-1946
Trumps Sun in Gemini in the 10th house shows us a focus on communication expression, and an interest in many different areas of life. Gemini is a mutable, masculine, air sign element. The positive pole of Gemini is “I think” its negative expression is “I scheme.” The 10th house is the house of career and public standing. 10th house natal Suns need to be recognized, feel they have a mission or message, and will strive for whatever they decide is “success.”
His ascendant (rising sign) is late in Leo while much of his first house of personality is in Virgo. Leo's need to shine, be creative and to be seen as the “giver.” They need applause and recognition to thrive and are often able to get it. The positive pole of Leo is “I will” its negative expression is “I pretend.” Like many Leo risers what they want or believe “should” be true is expressed as already true, even if reality doesn’t support this. The Virgo first house suggests someone willing to work, fix things, and a mutable earth tendency. This placement is strong for a focused personality to work to acquire security, often through acquisition. The planet Mars sits on his ascendant making him strong, aggressive, masculine, and forceful. Mars does not see yesterday or tomorrow and operates assertively in the moment. The negative side of this is often impatience, domineering, thin-skinned and often reactive.
His Moon in Sagittarius suggests someone who is philosophical, likes to talk, teach and an ability to be charming and funny. Sagittarius moons are good at rebounding and taking even difficult or negative experiences forward and seeing the value of “a lesson learned.” The positive pole of Sagittarius is “I understand” its negative expression is “I exaggerate.” The placement in the fourth house suggests a strong connection to family, and his roots, it may point to an interest in real estate or other matters connected to home and property. Sagittarius is a mutable fire sign. It can create optimism and drive but also restlessness.
Uranus conjuncts his natal Sun in Gemini. This influence can suggest someone being iconoclastic, who shakes things up, doesn’t follow the status quo, possibly brilliant or very eccentric. Uranus can be ahead of their time in some respects, but can also be compulsively rebellious and blunt. A Uranus conjunction to his natal Sun suggests a personality that wants to break from from rules and limitations.
His second house of money and finances and how we earn a living and create security in life, contain both Jupiter and Neptune. Their placement in Libra suggests working with other people as part of his path to income. Negotiations and deals are noted and an ability to be seen as a “smooth” talker are likely. The negative side of Libra in Neptune and Jupiter can create an endless search for justice and may involve legal matters. Jupiter creates opportunity, confidence, expansion, and sometimes being over confident. Neptune can suggest the gaining and losing of fortunes at times because one does not always see this area of life clearly. It can also suggest someone who sees money and acquisition in a mystical way or possibly in an unclear or overly idealistic way.
Mercury, Saturn and Venus were all in Cancer in his 11th house of hopes and dreams and group associations. We see someone who strives to achieve new goals. The cancer focus suggests a strong connection to family. He may find himself with friends who are like second family, or have a strong focus on other family matters as part of his evolving goals. There are a number of indicators in his chart of potential connections to real estate.
Pluto and Mars in his 12h house suggest karma around male energy and possible abuse of power in past lifetimes. His karmic purpose is to transform this energy though service and to learn to channel his abilities in more positive and dynamic ways and to not slip into old negative patterns. Both Mars and Pluto suggest aggressive energy ‘bubbling” beneath the surface and the potential to overuse male energy. This can either create tremendous ability to influence others or to be manipulative and to abuse power.
Trump has strong energy connected to fire and air elements. Communication and drive will be natural dispositions. Strong fire and air elements combine to create a charismatic, noticeable personality with the potential for strong impact on others. His earth element is not as strong so he will likely be driven to acquire money, possessions and what he needs to feel security although this will not necessarily be an easy task.
A good amount of Trumps chart is 10th house, 11, 12th house placements. This can easily place him in the public eye. His Leo ascendant will also add to this picture of strength and confidence, and need to find his way into the “limelight.”
A simplified formula for any chart is to look at the three strongest influences in a natal chart: The sun, moon, and ascendant.
Positive use of this combination: “I think.” I understand.” “I will.”
Negative use: “I scheme.” “I exaggerate.” “I pretend.”

ASTROLOGICAL READING Special

September 1, 2016-September 30th 2016. $20-$25 off all 45-90 minute sessions.

All astrological consultations are discounted $20 off my listed rates (no other discounts will apply at this time, but in office clients may take advantage of another $5 discount for cash or check payments) this month as well.

The Astrological natal chart reading is a great way to begin to understand your unique astrology. By looking beyond your Sun sign (the stuff the newspapers focus on) and exploring your Moon sign, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Ascendant, etc... you can begin to gain clarity about the focus; and primary themes, of your life. House placements, aspects, and elements will help you see your patterns in greater detail. Transits will show what areas of your life are currently highlighted, and pinpoint upcoming astrological triggers for the future. Relationships, career, money, friendships, spiritual growth, family, health... all interpreted for you so you don't have to do the work. You will need to know your birth time for this reading (a solar chart can be done instead of a Natal if you don’t know your birth-time).

Sessions can be either at home office or by phone consultations. Sessions can be recorded on audio cassette if requested.

Understanding your own chart is a tremendously valuable way to understand your life purpose. It can also be a huge help in understanding your relationships with the people around you. There are many different types of astrological charts that can be tremendously useful:
Relationship composite charts (a look at the positive and negative themes that surface in any relationship you are currently in, or considering committing to...). Midpoint astrology will show the positive and challenging ways the relationship works for both of you. By looking at your partner’s chart you can gain quite a bit of understanding about what makes them tick. This can be very beneficial in relating more effectively to each other.

Astrology charts can be drawn up and interpreted for your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews etc.. Of course these charts can be incredible gifts for both parents and the children themselves! When you understand the primary motivations, talents and challenges of the people in your life, we are often more compassionate, empathetic and better able to help and assist the people we truly care about.

Astrology charts for when to begin a business, marriages, or considering relocating are also great ways to plan life more efficiently. Solar return charts are an excellent way to see the themes of the year ahead.

Understanding Current astrological and near future transits is an excellent way to see both restrictions as well as opportunities and to make the best of timing cycles.
Email me at Venturasag@yahoo.com to book your discounted September session or to purchase (maximum of two at this current rate) a gift certificate purchased for yourself or a friend will be good for one full year! Mention September Astrological Special when booking.

August 2016 Snake Oil/Becoming Who We Are

Snake Oil
Becoming Who We Are

I started working on a project that I had planned to do over a year ago. My youngest sister is turning fifty in August of this year, so I decided to make a mini “fun book” of pictures and photo’s of her life. Typical of my continuing role of mildly antagonistic big brother in this life and a true Sagittarius, it would be funny, sarcastic, and a little obnoxious. The goal of getting my sister and any other family members who get to see it to laugh extremely hard, was something I knew from previous experience that I could pull off. Playful joking has always been a part of my family and a glue that connects my relationships with my siblings and many of my close friends. When I am around my siblings often a good portion of our time together is significant deep talks, but we also like to really playfully poke fun at each other. When my parents sold the house we all grew up in 22 years ago, I went back to NY and took a small amount of the books, notebooks, journals, and tremendous amount of artwork from my childhood back with me to my new home in Arizona. There was a lot of material, and it was difficult to leave so much of it behind. I still have that large box of early creativity so I had lots of material to use for my project.
I had found some funny pictures on the net and sifted through my box full of artwork to do my sister’s roast. I was an art major for two years in high school and for another two years in college, and artistic talents and a number of creative skills were something that I showed at a very young age. I was especially good at caricatures. I’d done lots of drawings of family members, friends, and celebrities, and written a number of comic strips, plays, mini-books, magazines, and a number of short stories. I was clearly reminded that I have always been a storyteller and performer in one form or another. I also found sheet music from my childhood. I played the organ and was actually becoming good at it from the ages of 10-13. It was fun to do this project and look at my childhood art and photos. I found myself laughing a lot. My often absurd sense of humor was always bizarre and possibly brilliant. What really struck me during the process was how good I really was at so many different creative things. I found a drawing that I had only finished halfway that I did at about age 13 of Mork and Mindy (A late 70s  and early 80s sitcom with Robin Williams). I wrote “this sucks!” underneath it and never finished it. Looking at it now I could see that it was really quite good and looked exactly like both of them.
Comic book I created with my sister as "Curl Girl" when I was 15.

This was the darker part of digging up my past. I was tremendously self-deprecating back then. I feared I was not talented and that there were many things wrong with me. I had notebooks from my teen years with wonderful stories and incredibly creative ideas, yet I also had pages of notes filled with doubts, fears, sadness and a fear of inadequacy. I feared I wasn’t talented at all. I feared I was not attractive. I was afraid of expressing my sexual identity. I wondered if I would ever be lovable. The strange contrast in all of this was I was very popular. A lot of people were drawn to me, I had a lot of friends and a few of them clearly had “crushes” on me. Still this negative fear of self worth tainted many good times. I sometimes protected myself by wishing or trying to be invisible or pretending I didn’t care about what others thought of me through a veil of indifference.
I frequently remind my clients that the blocking force in our lives is not a lack of purpose, skills, or talents, but usually two specific fears that limit our ability to use our talents and to comfortably be who we are. The development of chief negative feature (fear) usually begins to take hold of us around ages 12-13. Sometimes it surfaces a little earlier or later, but it always comes. There are seven fears or chief negative features. Most people end up eventually settling with two of these fears in a noticeably strong way or milder way, but they are typically quite hard to avoid entirely.
1. Self-destruction. A fear of lack of control, often triggered by extreme abandonment experiences.
2. Greed. A fear of lack, often triggered by receiving substitutes for what we really need and later forming specific fixations.
3. Self-deprecation. A fear of inadequacy, often triggered by excessive criticism, and doubts about ever being able to measure up.
4. Arrogance. A fear of vulnerability, often triggered by criticism and shame around being “good enough.”
5. Martyrdom. A fear of victimization, often triggered by people who take advantage of a disposition of early talents and strengths.
6. Impatience. A fear of being victimized by time, often triggered by parent(s) who have the very same fear.
7. Stubbornness. A fear of change, often triggered by not preparing children in a healthy way for change. This fear has the added “benefit” of sliding at times to the other six fears.
One or two of these primary fears will take root during childhood and usually by the time we reach around 19 or 20 after “playing” with some or all of them, we settle on a primary and secondary fear. They become a part of who we are.
One of the good things about this project and digging through my past was seeing how much I have changed for the better. Now I have very little fear. I don’t doubt my self-worth. I am very confident in the way I look, speak, and know that I am loved. I am even more talented and comfortable expressing those talents. The path of my life and what I was meant to do (dharma) was right in front of me all along. My work with Astrology and Numerology helped me see even more clearly the specific talents, skills, and challenges I had set up for myself in this lifetime. Yet, it was the work I did in my mid twenties and thirties toward recognizing and overcoming my fears and chief negative features that account for my present success and happiness.
I have many clients who are still searching for what they are meant to do in this life. Some are in their twenties and some are in their sixties! I often suggest that they look at the natural inclinations, skills, and talents they showed when they were younger. Some people are like me and meant to creatively express themselves. Some people have natural skills at parenting, taking care of animals, being diplomatic, are physically beautiful or drawn to sculpting strong bodies, talented photographers, problem solvers, have an ability to lift people up, remain strong in crisis, are good with numbers, find others the right homes, make others laugh... The list of talents people can have and use are far too long to list. For many people career paths are less of the priority and other things take precedence. They may be focused on overcoming illness, or disabilities, being really good friends and support to others, inspiring people by overcoming obstacles... We may even be meant to change course at different points in our lives. Many of us are mutable and have multiple potential paths we can take.

The problem has never been that everyone isn’t completely unique and doesn’t have specific skills and abilities that the world needs in a small way or a big way. The problem is fear begins to block each of us early on and may still hamper many of us today. The clouds of fear can keep us from expressing our true selves. People tend to tenaciously hold onto their fear and fight to keep hugging their cactus. Sometimes the fears of parents, guardians, and teachers push us away from our natural inclinations. We end allowing those fears to become our own. No matter what age or place you are in your life, the fears that block our life purpose(s) can be overcome. Besides, finding your life path and purpose is really a process, not a category. It is never too late and at any time we can choose to face and release the control of fear and become the person we truly were meant to be.

 Notes:

I have worked successfully with many different clients over the years on helping them overcome the influence of chief negative feature or fear. I usually push all of the clients in my Regular Client Program (information about this program available on my website or email for info.) to address this eventually in a few of our sessions, although some quit the program right before we get to it or during the process. Unfortunately not surprising! Chief negative feature will work tenaciously to keep its hold on us and to convince us that it is necessary and helping us. “We would be lost without its protection...” Of course this couldn’t possibly be more opposite. Fear is the cause of our difficulties, not part of the solution. If you are interested in removing the hold of fear in your life, you can join my Regular Client Program or take advantage of the special I am offering this month. More information about this August special in the newsletter.
We are truly in the heart of the summer. Monsoon season has arrived here so we are finally getting some rain. August first in Druid/Celtic tradition is called Lughnasadh. In Christian tradition it is called “Lammas.” It is a time to celebrate the first harvest of the year, and recognize that the hot summer days will soon come to an end (actually in AZ that could well go into mid to late October...). The plants of spring wither and drop seeds to ensure future crops. Grains are ready to be harvested and the fruits are ripe for the picking. We give thanks for the food on our tables. We are reminded that joy, levity and festivity are as much a part of the wheel and our lives as death and rebirth. Celebration is what makes life worth living and allows us to touch the joy of creation itself. It is a time to celebrate!
Wishing everyone a happy August. Cheers, Jim V

Nature and Consciousness
“To attempt to protect the self in old terms or to keep the self rigidly ‘itself’ is like holding your breath for too long. Selves, like breaths, go through us all the time. But from our standpoint we are the larger psychological structures that translate these selves into ourselves; just as the body translates our breath into our living.
Even our bodies often seem not us or not ours because we have forgotten how to identify with them, lost the knack of following the strands of consciousness that should connect us, so that our full experience of creature-hood itself is further limited. We seem instead to be victims of the flesh, at the mercy of illnesses, wars, and natural disasters, because we have lost track of our natural selves and lost sight of our place within nature’s framework.
It seems idiotic, for example, to think that we can cure ourselves naturally of illnesses when we believe that disease is thrust upon us by the flesh, and has nothing as all to do with our desires or beliefs. Until we realize that our consciousness, working through the body, creates its state of being, then any natural cures will be considered miraculous. Seth, for example, states that so-called miraculous cures are simply examples of unimpeded nature.

In the same way we are part of nature; physically as real as mountains, air currents, trees, or oceans, all of which have their effects upon the climate and world conditions. Yet for some reason we imagine that we affect the natural world only through our technology. But our physical presence itself has an interaction with the earth and with the physical elements that compose it. We are biologically connected, and this means that the chemical makeup of our bodies is part of the earth’s contents.
Our chemical balance changes as our emotions do, and we alter the composition of the earth. We are not at the mercy of natural disasters. We have forgotten or ignored our native emotional identification with the wind and with storms, and therefore lost our part in their existence, and whatever conscious control we may have once had over them. Therefore we need technology-to bring rain to parched areas, for example-and consider it the sheerest nonsense to blame parched emotions instead...”

AUGUST SPECIAL
TRANSFORMATION SESSIONS

During my 22 years of studying metaphysics, oracles, channeling, and other tools for increasing enlightenment, I came across the concept of the chief negative feature. We all have one, most of us have two, that block our ability to experience true happiness.
1. ARROGANCE  +(positive) pride -(negative) vanity
2. SELF-DEPRECATION + humility - abasement
3. GREED + appetite - voracity
4. SELF-DESTRUCTION + sacrifice - suicide
5. IMPATIENCE + daring - intolerance
6. MARTYRDOM + selflessness -victimization
7. STUBBORNNESS + determination -obstinacy
These fear patterns or “dragons” are the primary cause of unhappiness, and block us from having fulfilling careers, relationships, prosperity... By discovering what our chief feature is, how it formed, and how it blocks us, we can take charge of ending its hold. As we look at our childhood and see where our fear and false personality started, we can then move onto practical, powerful methods for living our lives without the manipulation of fear/chief feature.

Transformation sessions are discounted this month. One session is helpful, but three sessions would be the most beneficial approach to get a stronger position in weakening its hold. You can either join my Regular Client Program and get discounted rates, or take advantage of this months special. Three pre-payed sessions can be used monthly or quarterly. The rates listed below include a discounted rate of $120 off my listed rates. This special rate ends on August 31st 2016.
Pre=Pay (3) - 70 minute sessions $210 or (3) - 90 minute sessions $250.
One transformation session $90 for 70 minute ($20 discount off my listed rates)

July 2016 Snake Oil/Enlightenment in the dentists office

Snake Oil Enlightenment in the dentists office
(This column originally ran 4 years ago)

My July dental check-up left me with some serious angst that was then followed by some equally powerful illumination. Every four months I get my teeth cleaned. I have always been conscientious about keeping good dental habits. My dentist recently relocated to a nicer office space. His new spot was impressive, but I wondered how he had pulled off a move like this during a recession. My usual dental hygienist wasn’t there for some reason, so a nice, new young lady worked on my teeth. She noticed a spot on two of my upper teeth and suggested it would be best to do some x-rays. She showed me the x-rays and explained that I had two crowns that were cracking and needed to be replaced. She would have the receptionist at the desk give me an estimate on the costs on my way out.
I paid for my cleaning and was given the estimate for the crowns. With my insurance discounts it would be about $1,800 to replace the two crowns. They asked me when I wanted to come in and get them done. I said I would get back to them in a few months. At best, I would be only able to do one of them every four months. I was even a little suspicious that they “found” the damaged teeth at a time when they had just moved into a more expensive office. On the other hand, it had been years since I have needed any major dental work, so maybe it was time. Whatever the reason, I left the office with a feeling of heaviness.
As I drove home, I began to get upset. A stream of angry thoughts raced through my mind. “Just when things were improving for me financially I get hit with this crap. Isn’t that always the case. Isn’t this just how life is, as soon as you find yourself getting more prosperous, there always seems to be something else that needs to be fixed or repaired that inevitably costs a small fortune. How the hell is the average person expected to come up with $1800 for teeth. Neither I or anyone else I know has a change jar with an extra $2000 dollars in it for random repairs at this time. I gave up my credit cards two years ago, so how could I possibly pay for this? Life sucks and you can never get ahead. There are always a million things that drag you down in life. No wonder the middle class is getting crushed, how can anyone afford these kinds of things?” I had a steady stream of angry thoughts pouring out of me and it wasn’t the first time I had mentally run a tirade like this. My body was tense as I drove home, and I was more than a little angry.
Amidst my internal rant, I heard another calmer, peaceful thought that came through. How would a wealthy person respond to the same event? I thought about it for a minute and then speculated that a wealthy person might be annoyed about it, but they would probably not go into a tirade of poor me thoughts. They would probably figure, “I need the new crowns, it is a necessary reality and will be a good thing for me in the long run.” I wasn’t thinking like a wealthy person would and it was no wonder that I was exactly where I was financially. In the past I almost always reacted this way to anything that I saw as “expensive.”

Then another even more enlightened thought followed. How would a spiritually evolved person react to this event? How would a spiritual person who was at peace around issues connected with money and also living a prosperous life respond? I thought about this for a minute and figured that they would trust the Universe to take care of this. They would think the money needed will be there, because this is something that simply needs to be done. They would not necessarily need to know the exact details about how it would get resolved, only that it would. I realized I always get exactly what I need. It will be fun and interesting to see how the Universe will provide this for me, and I know it will provide. I am always taken care of! It felt so much lighter to think this way and while I was not truly convinced yet, it was how I needed to start thinking if I was going to ever live a truly prosperous life.
Our beliefs form our reality. I had gotten so used to struggling in the last few years that I had become even more inclined to stew over the cost of things. My endless tapes of irritation were the very things that were creating more struggle and lack for me. Our conscious/subconscious minds always convert our beliefs into the world we see around us. I was not a victim of expensive dental costs. I was getting exactly what I believed to be true about life and then getting irritated about it. I put the worry out of my mind and trusted that the issue would be resolved. In fact, later that day I visualized it already being resolved. I felt a wave of peace come over me. I knew as I let go of these victim thoughts my reality would inevitably shift. It always does when I do this. I just needed a negative experience to trigger my awakening. It’s funny how enlightenment can come to us in the strangest places and times.

Notes:

An interesting added note about this story. It was written almost four years ago. I have always prioritized taking care of my teeth. I have made regular dental office visits all of my life and also brush my teeth a number of times a day, and regularly floss. I have not gone to a dentist for a few years now. I started doing coconut oil pulling (check out information online about benefits of doing this) and stepped up my efforts in self care in last few years and I have had NO teeth problems and I have been fine without getting the costly repairs that were recommended. I will be getting dental coverage again in 2017 though because I do think it is important (and I really like the cleanings) to take care of our teeth. I may also have the work they suggested done once I have insurance to cover a part of it. I am also in a much better place financially after some work in changing my thoughts and beliefs about money and prosperity when this was written four years ago. Still, I clearly “survived” without getting the work I was told I "needed."

Check out my channeled corner this month. The author really shared some wise perspectives about what Astrology is and how it influences us. I think we can take this further as well by recognizing that in the case with all oracles (Numerology, Tarot, etc..) they are guide posts and signs of what is likely or probable but not always absolutes. Predictions are probable events, often mathematically far more likely but not always definitive. Things change, we make different choices, and in the case of things going “bad” it is often because of fear based choices that create difficulty or steer us in a negative direction. On the positive side with the use of oracles as a guide post we can also turn a potential negative into a positive when we become more aware, enlightened, and potentially make wiser choices!
Its hot here in Phoenix, no surprise for July. I will be taking at least one vacation each month for a few days at a time, but will still be working 4-5 days a week with availability for client sessions all summer. Same day appointment requests are rarely an option, but still okay to ask for because sometimes I have cancellations or just an occasional open work day. During really busy weeks it might be a few days before I can schedule your appointment. For most part I am no longer working on Wednesdays and Sundays. Everyone currently receiving my monthly column gets $5 off booked sessions and locals who pay by cash or check can take an additional $5 off my listed rates as well.  Wishing everyone a good summer. Cheers, Jim V

Channeled corner. I read many, many books from different trance channelers in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. Unfortunately many of them are now out of print, but I still have a huge collection and will share some of the best material I have collected over the years.
An astrological birth chart has been described as the blueprint of one’s soul. Could you comment?
Indeed I can. A natal chart is a bit like a chess problem, in which your beginning position determines how you will play. Rather than start the game neutrally, with rooks, pawns, and knights in their traditional places on the board, you array them in ‘conjunction’ or ‘opposition’ to one another, so they can exert challenges of different sorts.

You astrological birth chart is not as determined as you may have heard. Rather, it is a symbolic statement of the ‘game plan’ you have chosen for yourself. But you want to use a diving board as something to propel you, not to restrict you.
A typical Gemini or an archetypal Capricorn has, in a sense, chosen to play from his or her natal power base. But like a chess piece, even they can move to a different square! If others do not at all fit the astrological patterns, the astrologers might say, ‘Ah, this person was not born at the stated time,’ or One planet must have been overlooked when the chart was first drawn up.’
You are not bound or ‘ruled’ by your natal chart. It is more of an opportunity. But because opportunities are usually grasped, you take advantage of it. Because the positions of the planets at your birth do give a certain emphasis, you are more likely to run with these existing energies than you are to rebel needlessly.”

July Extra:
I posted this a few weeks ago on my Facebook fan-page, and sent it out directly to all the clients currently in my quarterly or monthly Regular client program.

“The retrograde Mars going on for last three months finally came to it’s end on June 29th.
Mars rules our male energy, assertiveness, aggression, what we are passionate about, and how we use our ability to direct energy in the world. The sign and house in our natal chart will show how we use this potential. The influence of Mars retrograde lasts for a few months. It can make us feel hair-trigger reactive one day and other days make us feel like “why bother,” and even crawling right back into bed. We are meant to look at how reactive we are during a Mars retrograde. It can be a bit of a test to know when we should respond aggressively to things and whether we should know when to NOT act. While this can always be something to consider, it becomes more of a challenge during Mars retrogrades. Mars is transiting through Sagittarius, so this can have a lot to do with how we see things philosophically, ethics, travel, optimism, how we use humor, wisdom, and how we teach others. Mars in Sagittarius is asking us to focus more on being UNDERSTANDING of others points of view. The house(s) of life that Sagittarius covers in our natal charts will show us where this is pushing us even more specifically!

If a Mars retrograde is in our the house of relationships (7th house like mine) it influences this area more specifically. Second House would be money, finances, and what makes us feel secure, and so on with all 12 houses of life...

It has been both easily and noticeably uncomfortable to see the Mars retrograde out in the world. The election cycle has brought a hot bed of issues that many people really take personally, including who will be the right president and who will, or “should” win. Many people have expressed who they believe should or shouldn’t be running at all! You can see the Sagittarius, fire type of passion here, but also the exaggerated soap box perspective on the side of both people on the left and the right about who is right and who is ABSOLUTELY wrong. I am not judging anyone for their position by the way, just an illustration and observation about the intensity of belief that this retrograde really brought to the surface. I have very definite opinions about this race as well of course.

On the more recent extreme side of things we had a brutal, horrific mass shooting in Orlando by a clearly repressed closeted gay or bisexual man is a painful example. Mars energy misused and carried to the worst possible expression humanly possible...

A few weeks ago Mars moved so far backwards in the retrograde that it went into Scorpio again. This move really pushed us to look at where we have power and where we don’t. It likely triggered frustration for many people about where other people “push our buttons” and how we react to this prodding. Pretty much different versions of: “How dare you?” to “Why don’t you care about this?” Scorpio can produce some darker thoughts in all of us, while at the same time it can also help us to get in touch with the things we really care about. Old painful wounds and a need to forgive others and ourselves to fully move forward is ultimately what the more spiritual side of Scorpio is asking of us. Can we turn darkness into purpose? As this retrograde finishes up. It should have served to remind each of us of our true potential and ability to influence and even manipulate others. We can influence other people and create a win/win result if our energy is focused in the most positive way. It may also have helped us to know when to not take action, and to be wise enough to remember the wisdom of understanding that true power comes from the ability choose your actions appropriately.”
