April 2014 Snake Oil/Taking It All Too Hard

Snake Oil
 Taking It All Too Hard
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ru2LPFXj20&feature=kp

In the mid eighties the rock group Genesis came out with an album that had a song called “Taking It All Too Hard.” It was a great album with a lot of popular hit singles, but this was my favorite track. I really resonated with this song, it seemed to put me at ease every time I found myself battling with the intense emotions, hopes, confusion, and seemingly endless fears about my future. All typical things for someone in their late teens to be confused about. I felt intense, angry at times, and had strong opinions about a number of things. At the same time, I was reading a lot of channeled books and other metaphysical wisdom and learning that detachment was a path to enlightenment. I wondered if there was a way to find a balance between the intense feelings that made me feel both incensed and alive, while remembering the wisdom of detachment. Was it possible for me to maneuver comfortably in both worlds?

The Archetypal symbol of Temperance (14) is one of the 22 Major Arcana symbols in the Tarot. This Archetype shows the image of a woman pouring two cups of wine back and forth into each other. She has angel wings and the look of someone who is enlightened as she stands on the edge of a lake. The upright position of Temperance represents the process of stabilizing and developing equilibrium. It reminds us that healthy cooperation and adjusting our responses in anything we commit to can lead to internal and external harmony. We understand we have to work at finding balance through trial and error to achieve our goals. It resonates with the wonderful sense we feel when we find ourselves passing our life tests. It is possible for us to find a balance between passion and detachment. In its reverse position it speaks to us about being radical or extremist in our actions. We fail our tests and suffer because we are too heavy handed in our approach and lack moderation. This can be from the influences of others refusing to adjust by being disruptive or a situation where we are causing the disharmony. In either case, we may find ourselves in painful conditions where we feel defeated, fearful and even “shipwrecked.” Like most people I have experienced both the positive and negative of this archetype.

There are many different areas in life where people become unbalanced and lack healthy Temperance. Some extreme and dark examples are: school shootings, people stockpiling guns “because the government is coming to take them,” someone committing suicide because of shame around financial failures, a man or woman kills their wife or husband because they were verbally or physically abusive for years, one parent keeps the other parent from seeing their children to punish the other. All of these examples clearly illustrate extreme responses and a lack of balance. People do crazy and often irreparable damage when they lack temperance.
The majority of us won’t ever do anything this extreme. Most of us get caught up in just a little “crazy” when we lack temperance; Stalking your boyfriend on FaceBook, and compulsively checking his phone or driving by his workplace to see what he is up to. Painfully staying in an unhappy marriage because this is what “till death do us part” means. Stealing from work because “we aren’t getting paid what we deserve.” Obsessing over any difficulty we may be experiencing and not being able to eat or sleep because we are in “so much pain.” We lack temperance when we get so myopically focused on the difficulties and problems that we contemplate or act with extreme responses to attempt to balance the scales. No matter how difficult any experience may be, there are always good things in other areas of our lives. We lose sight of these positive things and often create new problems when we react impulsively.
Relationships in one form or another seem to bring up the issue of a lack of temperance the most for people. I see people all of the time who are struggling with balance in relationships. Whether they be in familial, work, or with a significant other, this is the area that most people seem to “take it all too hard.” Yet, throwing the engagement ring you paid dearly for into a lake because your girlfriend isn’t ready to marry you is a definite example of a lack of temperance. Spreading rumors about a co-worker who pissed you off is a definite lack of temperance. Keying your boyfriend’s car because he cheated on you is not a wise solution. Hurt, anger, and problems surface from time to time in our experience with other human beings. Yet, if we remember the purpose of healthy temperance and wise detachment, we can find a way to navigate through anything with grace. Detachment doesn’t mean we pretend not to care and stop feeling our feelings. Detachment is an ability to have an experience without drowning in it. A recognition that while the situation may be really bad, there is purpose we will someday be able to see.
In order to accomplish anything of value in life, whether that be devotion to a cause, relationship, or any project that really matters to us, we have to allow our passion to rise. We have to let ourselves get excited and fired up! Even when doing something we really love we will experience ups and downs along the way. We can remember trial and error are part of this process. In the book of Runes, the Gateway Rune Thurisaz reversed reminds us “to be certain that you are not suffering over your suffering.”* What this means is that the word suffering originally meant to “undergo.” If we experience difficulties, or a sense of powerlessness in a relationship or situation, while we need to feel the feelings that surface, we also can remember that pain is generally not a permanent thing. Physical and emotional pain are smoke signals telling us something is not working. If we are willing to do what is necessary then the pain will go away. A change in viewpoint may be enough to release our suffering. We often need to look at the situation as it “really is” as opposed to how it “should be.” In some cases we may need to abandon the path or relationship if it’s too toxic, but there is always a solution.
I have had a few times in my life when I was “shipwrecked.” I did a few mildly crazy things in my younger days. I picked mates that couldn’t give back in a healthy way. I struggled with things not going the way they were “supposed to.” I have been guilty of the “poor Jim” stories in my head, and even tortured my friends with my complaints. I played some of these tapes: “Why is God putting me through this?” “I am in so much pain, when will it end?” “I don’t deserve this, I was just trying to do something good.” Thankfully age, wisdom, and detachment have helped me to become more moderate in my approach. At this point in my evolution, victim types of reactions are almost non-existent. I am able to see my part in the creation of every event. We are human beings and we are meant to feel emotions both the “good” and “bad” ones. Sometimes our struggles are huge and may take some time to solve. If we are suffering in any way we can step back and remember that we always have a choice. We get to choose how we respond. No matter how out of balance we may feel, doing something destructive will rarely solve any problem. Detachment can be a comfort because it reminds us this too shall pass. We can recognize that suffering over our suffering is also a choice, and not a good one.
We can learn to use the Temperance archetype in the best possible way. To some extent, we are always in the process of adjusting and fine-tuning our ability to have balance. A child given two glasses, one with milk and the other empty, will delight in pouring them back and forth until they are perfectly even. The child may spill the milk. At some point he may even knock the glass over completely. He may feel frustrated by his clumsiness and his lack of dexterity. Yet, with patience, practice, and continued effort he will develop a perfect rhythm, and usually accomplish his goal and absolutely enjoy the process itself.

Editor’s Note:

This piece probably went through more rewrites than any column I have ever written. Sometimes there are so many ideas related to a subject, it can be difficult to keep them from running too long. In the case of discussing an Archetype the areas of life it represents are simply too numerous to cover! I mentioned the essay to a buddy (also in his forties) who immediately understood what I meant when I told him I was writing a column called Taking It All Too Hard. His wife, on the other-hand, began to get uncomfortable with the idea of detachment. She felt that it meant “not caring.” And, if people don’t care about the problems and wrongs of this world how will anything ever change?” She is passionate about education, and I respect her passion and convictions and willingness to work at solving the problems in this area. Her husband told her she was too worked up over the issue and they ended up having a fight about this and other matters while I was visiting! It seemed like I triggered an avalanche. They worked it all out inevitably, (and later told me they are now getting along better because they were able to “clear the air” in a few other areas) but it made me aware of what a sensitive subject like this can trigger for people...
At the end of 2013 and in early 2014, I had a few weeks when my phone was a bit screwed up and I think I lost a few emails at that time. If you contact me and I don’t respond within a day or two, it is likely that I didn’t get the message (although both phone and my emails seem to be working fine now, especially because I switched my phone provider). Feel free to leave another message or email if I don’t respond back within two or three days. While I am only scheduling appointments 4 and a half days each week now, I still always respond quickly to requests for booking appointments. I have been having weeks lately where I do get booked up a week in advance. Same day appointment requests are becoming a rare option (although some days I do have cancellations), but it’s still okay to ask. Please be patient though when I have busy weeks and my first opening isn’t for a week or two. To quote St. Augustine, and something I have to remind myself of often: “The reward of patience is patience.”
I finished the last edits for my third book about using casino comps called FreeRide. We are looking at a launch date for late May of this year. I am looking forward to getting this book out into the world! I am also looking forward to refocusing my energy back into finishing a few other books including my Tarot interpretation guide book, which is actually halfway finished. That will then have to go though tons of edits as well. A lot of works goes into making books... After that, I plan on putting the finishing touches on Snake Oil Volume Two.
Spring is here. I am sure my North East friends are extremely happy to see winter coming to an end. Wishing everyone a Happy April. Cheers, Jim V

Seth on one of Christ’s messages:
“Another small point here: Christ’s dictum to turn the other cheek (Matthew 5:39) was a psychologically crafty method of warding off violence-not of accepting it. Symbolically it represented an animal showing its belly to an adversary. The remark was meant symbolically. On certain levels, it was the gesture of defeat that brought triumph and survival. It was not meant to be the cringing act of a martyr who said. ‘Hit me again,’ but represented a biologically pertinent statement, a communication of body language. It would cleverly remind the attacker of the ‘old’ communicative postures of the sane animals.”

Snake Oil Volume One
Jim Ventura has been writing his monthly Snake Oil column for 10 years. Volume One is a collection of his first four years of Snake Oil. This volume also includes nine Snake Charms. Practical explanations and instruction for meditation, ear conning, lucid dreaming, etc... Jim’s Snake Oil philosophy is all about changing the perceptions of how we view life to include metaphysical perspectives into all of our experiences. While we keep our feet firmly planted on the ground in this world we can simultaneously expand our consciousness. Snake Oil reminds us that we can also grow to become more enlightened while finding the wisdom of humor in ourselves and the world around us.
Excerpts from Snake Oil volume one:
Snake Charm
Any truth in all that past life stuff?
“Most people are fascinated by the possibility that they may have lived other lifetimes. Any serious study of metaphysical philosophy will lead to the conclusion that reincarnation is part of our experience. Sadly, the subject is fraught with confusing information and quite a bit of misinformation that muddles the waters of clarity around how reincarnation works. Some of the most common inaccuracies that I hear from both metaphysical people and non-metaphysical people are: “This is my first lifetime, I am a brand new soul.” “This is definitely my last lifetime, I am not coming back.” Next time I am definitely coming back as a dog.” I have always been male in all my lifetimes, I am a pure male soul.” “There is no such thing as reincarnation, otherwise it would be talked about in the Bible...”

BE AFRAID BE VERY, VERY, VERY AFRAID
“I often remind my clients that what we fear might happen is almost always far worse than any difficult experience we ever actually endure. We waste valuable life force, time and energy stressing and worrying about possible future disasters. “How will I survive financially if I leave this loveless marriage?” “what if my family disowns me when they find out I am gay?” “what if I never find the right mate and end up alone?” “People are getting laid-off all around me; how will I survive if I lose my job?” “What will happen If I get sick?” The list of things to dread is endless. We all encounter difficulty from time to time. Occasional challenges are part of life in a physical body. Thankfully, most of our imagined worse-case-scenarios rarely come to pass. Real problems and difficulties are never really the issue. Being caught in the grip of fear is the real battle to resolve...”

Clouds got in my way
“We crave certain substances and use them to excess when we are spiritually, mentally, and emotionally out of balance. The most commonly used addictive substances are:
Tobacco - masks unresolved anger and feeling powerless (it is common for smoking to begin during adolescence when turbulent feelings are part of the teens years).
Sugar - masks a feeling of not being loved.
Chocolate - similar to sugar, but also masks feeling comfortable with intimacy.
Alcohol - masks fear (witness the drunk expressing delusional bravery and sometimes acting belligerent and telling everyone around him/her what “they really think”).
Marijuana - masks sadness.
Caffeine - masks everything...”

Wacky neighbors Sacred clowns?

“My current condominium home has its fair share of characters. Last year one of my neighbors, whose stairwell is covered in wooden logs and an assortment of lights, must have had some of
his “art” stolen from him. For weeks we were graced with a sign at the front of his stairway suggesting to passerby's that they: “don’t touch my shit!” I am guessing that the majority of my neighbors were equally embarrassed by this ridiculous sign. We also had a friendly, crazy, retired older man who walked around with a loaded gun tucked into his belt...”

March 2014 Snake Oil

Snake Oil
Stupid people and rainbows

I purposely timed my drive back from a day of running errands to avoid rush hour traffic. It was two pm, and I was heading home on a rainy day. Traffic on the freeway was mild until the rain started to get heavier. I, along with most other drivers, appropriately slowed down to accommodate the road conditions. I was fine with that, until I began to see that every two exits or so, traffic would almost completely stop. The first time this happened was because of a minor accident that made everyone feel a need to slow down and stare at the incident. The police had already moved the vehicles to the side, but apparently everyone still needed to move painstakingly slow so as to see what was going on. A few exits later, traffic slowed down to a snail’s pace because a cop had pulled someone over and this was equally fascinating to most of the other drivers as well. This went on in one format or another during my entire drive home. I found myself becoming progressively irritated by the whole situation. There was either constant braking or dangerous speeding. Drivers were either overly cautious, or not cautious enough. The whole situation was excruciating. I began to wonder: why were people so stupid?

A trip that should have taken ten minutes had stretched out to thirty and I was only halfway home. I couldn’t even get around the endless messes along the way because the left lane was occupied by two huge semi’s. When did it become acceptable for huge trucks to drive in the left lane other than for passing purposes? At the peak of my frustration I noticed something completely different. There were two larger than life rainbows ahead of me in the sky. They looked like special effects from a fantasy movie. They seemed surreal and I found myself mesmerized by these two visions that occupied the entire northwest skies of Phoenix. They were stunning and I was entranced by a level of beauty rarely seen here. I realized that the delays and stupid people were actually doing me a favor. They gave me an opportunity to take a slow drive home and enjoy a powerfully transformative visual. There was an opportunity right in front of me. Initially my focus on “how stupid most of the other drivers were,” blocked me from seeing what other aspects of the drive were being offered.

Seeing the rainbows had shifted my perspective. I had a sense of real peace and a new awareness of how we often allow excessive scrutiny, and frustration with others to block us from seeing the overwhelming beauty that exists in this world and in every moment. I had gotten caught up on focusing on what was wrong and allowed my cynicism to darken my day. I enjoyed the rest of my drive home. I even considered calling some friends to suggest that they go outside and witness the amazing rainbows that currently graced our skies. I was almost home and driving down the side-street in front of my condominium complex when I noticed a lunatic behind me in my rear-view mirror. She was riding dangerously close to my car, clearly in a rush and annoyed at my decision to only do the exact speed limit in the pouring rain. Instantly my irritation returned and I decided to teach this “idiot” a lesson. I slowed down even more in the single lane road to show this impatient dummy that I was not going to be pushed around! How dare she mess up my peaceful drive home! Why were people so stupid? After I taunted her for a minute or two I realized what I was doing. I could easily have chosen to simply let her pass, but decided that it was my job to “teach her a lesson.” I regained my sanity, stopped pumping my brakes and purposely slowing down, and resumed my normal speed. A few minutes later as I turned into my complex, she honked, flipped me “the bird,” and sped off and on her angry way.

Later, I thought about how easily I slipped between being peaceful and happy to becoming angry and confrontational again. A few days later I noticed that my rear left tire was flat. There was a huge screw in the tire and I wondered if the woman from the car had come back and angrily put that screw in my tire. It was possible, but intuitively I felt that this was not the case. I did not feel like she had come back to “teach me a lesson.” I was just unlucky and ran over a screw in the road. There are practical hazards that exist in our world. Occasionally shit just happens and we shouldn’t take it personally. Still, some part of me drew a screw to my tire that week and I knew it had to do with the energy of getting so irritated by my perception of “ so many stupid people screwing with me!” I spent way more time focusing on the negative instead of the beautiful rainbows. Now, I would be spending $250.00 on a pair of new tires.

Growing up in New York and getting a drivers license included defensive driving classes. The focus on assuming “you need to prepare and watch out for the worst in people” was part of avoiding accidents. This was considered wise, and we were “rewarded” for thinking this way. On the positive side, this has made me an excellent driver. I have avoided many problems on the road and to my knowledge never caused an accident. On the negative side this “everyone is a potential idiot” has found its way into other areas of my life. It is easy to get annoyed with people and situations and to become judgmental about all of it. Focusing too heavily on “how things should be” and how everything should be done the “right way,” takes a lot of energy. Being discerning is a valuable skill, but being overly critical of others is carrying healthy discernment too far. The same can be said for being overly critical with ourselves. My day with the rainbows made me aware that we always have a choice to lighten our perspective and become less cynical. It  takes some practice to do this. Old habits can be hard to break, especially when we see them as part of our “cultural heritage.” The reward is I am feeling happier more often, and taking what other people do less personally. Releasing some of my judgements has allowed me to see more rainbows. This positive shift in my viewpoint is allowing me to discover beauty and harmony in all kinds of new places.

Editors Note:

I wrote this piece back in early 2010. It’s hard to believe that 2010 was four years ago already! It was fun to look at this again. My ability to avoid getting so pissed off about things has improved dramatically. The older and wiser I get, the less I take anything anybody does or negative conditions personally. Healthy detachment is sooo valuable.
For me and for many of my friends, this year continues to be a prosperous and overall great year. I started a new cycle with a “ONE” year in numerology late November of 2013 and I am in a really good place. It has been a great experience to help so many of my Regular clients get to a better place in their lives as well! On the other hand, I see so many people struggling through issues and problems in their lives that could be solved practically or by a change in viewpoint. Many of the new clients I have seen in the last two years come in for a reading and have areas in their lives that are really blocked up. I try to make suggestions in ways to heal and resolve these issues, but it is hard to do any real healing work in a single 45 minute session! The message I have for everyone is: You are not “meant” to suffer or struggle in life. Pain and difficulty serve as smoke alarm signals that show us where we need to make shifts in our lives physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. We can be happier and live more fulfilling empowered lives. Even if what we are experiencing is karmic, wisdom erases karma. God/All That Is/ Tao/Higher Self wants us to grow and learn, not to spend a lifetime suffering. Consider letting go of any beliefs that translate into “suffering is necessary and good for us.”
One way to get into a more empowered place in your life is by prioritizing working on your spiritual growth. I started my Regular client program many years ago. Regulars come in for sessions either monthly or quarterly. They get discounted prices on sessions and access to consistent work on increasing their spiritual evolution and becoming more empowered. Check out the information later in this newsletter or go to my website for more information about this program and see if you would like to commit to carving out a life with more fulfillment and joy in it!
You may want to take a look at my upcoming classes and my Astrology chart special this month. Everyone who gets my monthly newsletter can take advantage of the special for March, or sign up for classes. Spring is on its way, new growth and new beginnings! Happy March. Cheers, Jim V

“Individually and en masse, in the dream state you change the orientation of your consciousness, and deal with the birth of events which are only later time-structured or physically experienced.
First of all, physical events are the end products of nonphysical properties. The formation of events is initially an emotional, psychic, or psychological function. Events are physical interpretations, conventionalized versions of inner perceptive experiences that are then ‘coalesced’ in space and time. Events are organized according to laws that involve love, belief, intent, and the intensities with which these are entertained.
Events are attracted or repelled by you according to your loves, beliefs, intent, and purposes. Your world provides a theater in which certain events can or cannot occur. Wars, violence, disasters-these are obviously shared by many, and are a part of your shared psychological and physical environment...” Jane Roberts from The Nature of the Psyche

What is the Michael teaching?
The main goal of the Michael teaching is agape or unconditional love. The teaching views life as a learning game in which fragments of the Tao - that essential part of each human being - set up lessons which continue over lifetimes. These lessons are learned via the personality which Essence chooses each lifetime. Michael teaches us what the components of the personality are so that we can learn to use and see these components in ourselves and in others. In that way we can learn to understand why human beings behave as they do. Michael is composed of 1,050 individual Essences who have lived on the physical plane and now teach from another plane. One of the most basic and important principles of the teaching is that it is not a religion or a belief system. Michael encourages their students to self validate all of the information they receive. The system was originally in print in over 12 volumes of information. “My studies of this material have been extensive and now I offer what I have learned to my students” Jim Ventura (Old Scholar). The classes will help you to use and understand the material without the need to read all the out-of-print books.
Saturday mornings 10 am till noon, March 29, April 5, 12, 19, 26th. $90.00 for all five classes ($80.00 pre-paid and for current Regular clients). A $20 deposit is required to hold your space in this series.

“I want to let you know what some of your teachings have meant to me, particularly the "Michael" teachings.  For the past year and a half, I have been married to a dear sweet man, whom I happened to have known for over 35 years.  We have had a good friendship and mutual respect and admiration for each other all those years.  When our relationship became romantic, it was and is the most incredibly beautiful relationship I have ever experienced.  And you know my history with relationships hasn't been very successful.  How does this have anything to do with you?  Well, if I hadn't learned so much about myself through some of your classes, I'm not sure I would feel so peaceful with my husband today.
You see, we are both "servers".  Recognizing that in each other, it's been so easy to put the other one's needs ahead of our own without any resentment or animosity.
It's important to me to let you know that your influence has helped to make my ‘golden’ years so wonderful.  Don't stop doing what you do.” Former Michael student.

“Nobody makes anybody enlightened. Just tell them what you want to say, then let them decide for themselves.” Toba Beta

Regular Client Program

One of the best programs I have been doing for nearly ten years now is my Regular client program. The program is designed to benefit my clients at multiple levels. Clients who enroll in the program come in every three months for personal sessions (monthly is also an option). This can also be done for out-of-area clients by phone. Session prices are discounted for Regular clients. Regulars also receive discounts on classes, books and CD’s. The focus of the program is on consistent work in developing your intuitive abilities, learning how to use the signs and signals that are all around us, and conquering fear-based programming permanently. We also get to do work with all of the many different oracles I currently work with! My Regular client program has resulted in some tremendous spiritual evolution for hundreds of people over the years. Many of my Regulars have gone on to do spiritual counseling, or similar types of work and some are healing and guiding others personally and professionally. The progress I have seen over the years among the majority of my Regular clients has been phenomenal. It is wonderful to see the spiritual, physical, and emotional progress I have assisted in motivating. So many of my Regular clients have dramatically changed the way they now view life and are enjoying a more enlightened point of view. You too can join this program as well, just ask.
More about the Regular Client Program... This program was designed to create an easy, cost effective way for my clients to progress in their spiritual development.
When we are consistent at attending to our body/mind/spirit, we naturally move through life with more harmony and greater joy. When our spiritual awareness is heightened and fine tuned we are often happier which helps us to enjoy all aspects of our lives, including occasional personal challenges because we see them as inevitably beneficial. We can truly assist the people around us. Human beings learn by example. Your intimate partnerships, friendships, family, and children benefit when you are in a good space.
The Regular Client Program makes it easier to prioritize keeping your spiritual, emotional and even physical “garden” free of weeds. In China, the professional soothsayer is a reverent and dignified calling.  It does not attract the sort of suspicion it does in the western world. In fact, in most eastern cultures, seeing an oracle reader is a sign of wisdom, success, and prestige. If you have an interest in increasing these attributes and working with a highly skilled navigational consultant then the Regular Client Program may be right for you.

Snake Oil February 2014

Snake Oil
Dharma: Visions of tomorrow today

As much as I was comfortable with the home, family, and where I was born, I knew at a young age that I would move away. There were signs and directional arrows that pointed to a future move. I lived in the same Long Island home, in a middle class neighborhood until I got my first apartment. I moved to Arizona when I was twenty five. At the age of twenty-one I got my first apartment with a buddy and then I shared a rented house with another friend for a few years before I decided to move west. It was clear to me early on that the task of finding a way to make enough money to buy a home on the Island and live comfortably was not going to be an easy one. While you could make more money than in most other states, the costs to live in New York were extremely high. I had great friends and a mostly supportive family, but I really got the push to leave it all behind when I was around 23. I was a few years into my studies of metaphysics and I had read books about Sedona, Arizona and began to think that was the place for me. While I had never been to Arizona or California, or really even knew anyone who lived on the west coast, it seemed to me that it was simply a better spot for my growing spiritual interests. I was tired of the cold, snowy and wet winters, and the pull to move became increasingly overwhelming.
While I intuitively knew I would move, I needed to see how it physically felt. I made the decision to travel to Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Sedona during the same trip in early February of 1989. I landed in Phoenix, and got off the plane to experience an extremely well received 75 degrees. I instantly fell in love and felt like I had come home. It felt like things were clicking into place. My excitement around the potential move was stronger than any fear I may have had. California and Sedona were awesome but also really expensive. So Phoenix was my destination of choice. My first apartment was $349 a month, and it was a really nice one! I made the move in late 1989.
There were all kinds of practical details that went into my decision to move, yet it was the metaphysical ones that were the most pivotal. Even when I was young there were many different signs that I would move west. I was fascinated by the Mary Tyler Moore show and specifically the theme song in the seventies. The whole idea of going to another city and starting over intrigued me.

“How will you make it on your own? This world is awfully big, and girl this time you’re all alone. But it’s time you started living. It’s time you let someone else do some giving. Love is all around no need to waste it. You can have a town, why don’t you take it. You might just make it after all...”
Replace the “girl” for “boy” in the song and I knew that this was something that I was destined to do when I was old enough. Mary went somewhere really cold, Minneapolis - I wanted to go where it was warm! Playing in the snow and aspects of winter were fun when I was younger, yet when I became an adult, snow was mostly a pain in the ass. I absolutely loved the spring, summer, and fall when the weather was warmer to even hot. I was happy and less pessimistic when it was sunny and warm. One of my favorite songs as a child was California Dreaming by the Mama’s and the Papa’s. California and the west coast in general was where it was sunny, and people seemed to be pretty, buff, and happy. It was scary to consider leaving everything I knew behind, along with all the securities and comforts of my home. Still, I also knew that I needed to really find out who I was, without the chains of my past holding me back. I needed to start fresh and take risks in order to mature. I knew that the metaphysical path was calling me, and the west just seemed like the place I needed to be to find what my path was going to be all about. Coming to Phoenix and being only two hours away from-what I thought to be the most metaphysical town in the U.S. (Sedona) was just too hard to resist.
Dharma is our direction karma. While we always have free will and make choices about what we do, we also come into our lives with blueprints or maps of probable directions we will likely move toward. This is what our dharma is. We can often see much of our dharma in our Astrology charts, Numerology charts, and with other types of oracles. This is why I decided to develop expertise with these tools; to understand my unique path and to help people understand theirs. I had many other glimpses of aspects of my dharma throughout my life. When I was 13 I had a vivid lucid dream of a library. I began to pull books off the shelves because there were a lot of them! I saw dozens of books that were written by Jim Ventura. I knew I would become a writer someday. When I was a kid, I used to enjoy recording pretend radio shows with my friends on cassette tapes. In my early forties I started doing my weekly radio show. For the most part, everything I have always enjoyed doing, especially the things I thought of as “play” have become successful aspects of my work. On countless occasions I have felt that familiar click when I could see how I had been led to doing what was now falling into place. I thankfully have always been blessed with an ability to see “signs.”
Even if you don’t feel like you ever had enough prophetic signs or any visions in your past, there are other ways to see one’s dharma. Going on a Vision Quest is a great way to get a clear view of where we are heading. All cultures have some version of this process. In Lakota tradition, a boy goes on a Vision Quest at puberty to find his identity, name, and direction. He isolates himself for four days and nights on top of a hill without food and water. The site is isolated and protected by a Medicine Man. We don’t have to do something this extreme to Vision Quest. Short vacations and retreats into nature will often help open our “eyes.” Even with brief visits, nature seems to amplify our intuitive vision and help to release the blocks that often interfere with our ability to hear our intuitive voices.
The process of temporarily retreating from the noise of the world itself can help us get in touch with our dharma. We are surrounded by a steady stream of loud noise in this world. On top of this we are frequently bombarded by the noise of people telling us what we “should be doing.” All of this chatter can make hearing what our intuitive self is saying, harder to hear. I had one of the most profound and clear views of my life while sitting on the edge of the Grand Canyon in 1990. I saw vivid details about my near future and was clearly able to see the problems that were blocking my way. I was struggling with some major issues at that time and the vision wasn’t an easy one. I needed that clarity and it helped me to let go of a number of blockades including an extremely abusive relationship I was involved in. Prophetic visions and new creative ideas often come when I am on vacations. I frequently get insight about where I am heading in my future while on drives to Las Vegas! Some of my best writing, videos, and other creative ideas have come to me this way! You don’t have to be born with powerful intuitive and psychic abilities to benefit by tapping into your dharma. Like any other skill in life the ability to “see” can be developed with practice. There are many different ways to increase our ability to get direction about where our path is heading, but a Vision Quest is something everyone can do.

Editors Note:

2014 is really off to a great start. I am getting ready to do my third YouTube video. All the promotional work I have done in the last few years has put me in a good spot with business and reaching new clients. My decision to do another video has more to do with my creative side and how much I enjoy making them. The “ham” in me really enjoys doing things like this!
I had some phone issues in January. It seems the landlines in my area aren’t up to par. Some of my clients have told me they called and they couldn’t get through. I am hoping it gets resolved within the next few weeks, but not sure if they are prioritizing land line repairs.  It may be something that is slowly getting phased out. A lot of people don’t even have land lines anymore because cell phones have become so much more reliable. Any calls will get forwarded to my cell though, so If I don’t return a call within a few days definitely call back. Better yet, email is actually the best way to contact me for booking, since I check it a few times a day in my home office.
I wouldn’t post a column mentioning the Mary Tyler Moore show or them without including some links for you to view and listen too. Enjoy!
“Mental or physical pain is telling you to do something. Do what needs to be done and the pain will go away.” Dick Sutphen

Channeled corner. I read many, many books from different trance channelers in the 80s and 90s. Unfortunately many of these books are now out of print, but I still have a huge collection and will share some of the best material I have collected over the years.
Question to Channel: I have noticed a flurry of coincidence lately. Is there any meaning to them?
Yes. As when your TV set crackles when an appliance is plugged in or when you see lightening flashing among the clouds, connections are being made so that energy can flow. Basically, coincidences are signs of coming change in your personal weather.
The changes so indicated, I might add, are always healthy, the transformation always beneficial. Even if no outward change comes from this flow of energy, at least your daily life will take on a grace, ease, and spontaneity it did not have before. So look for coincidences to be the forerunners of pleasant changes or of deepening abilities on your part.” Answers from a Grander Self by Tom Mossman

Maximum of 8 students for this home class (one student may call in out-of-area on speaker phone) and minimum of 4 sign-ups to hold the classes.

It's important to me to let you know that your influence has helped to make my "golden" years so wonderful.  Don't stop doing what you do.” Former Michael student.
